No one mourns the wicked

No one cries "They won't return!"

"Damn. That really you, sugar?"

Elaina backs up further. "Get away from me." She holds up her gun.

Her former coworker glances at it and chuckles. "That's my gun."

"Not anymore." She says, grinding her teeth.

His gaze falls on Lori behind her. "Who's this?"

Lori doesn't say anything. She glances at Elaina, clutching the strap of her bag.

"None of your business, Brent." Elaina says angrily.

He ignores her, looking directly at Lori now. "What's your name?"

Elaina clenches her jaw. "Don't speak to her."

He steps even closer, trying to grab the gun out of her hand. She cocks it, a bullet going into the chamber. Her finger rests on the trigger.

He laughs. "Oh come on, now. You aren't gonna shoot me. Not after everything we've been through."

Elaina shivers at the tone of his voice. This man made her life a living hell every single day. He would constantly objectify her and force himself onto her.

She reported him to upper management over and over but nobody cared. He's a man. She's a woman.

Society.

Things are different now though. She is different now. Her hands remain steady on the gun.

Brent rolls his eyes. "You shoot me, and my boys will hear. They'll find you and your friend back there. Trust me, you don't wanna do that, hun."

He takes another step.

"Don't." She spits.

He makes a move for her gun and she immediately pulls the trigger, the bullet landing directly in his throat. He falls to the carpeted floor of the motel.

Her silencer muffled most of the gunshot. She inhales sharply. She looks down at the spawn of satan below her, bleeding out. After a moment, his movement stops.

He's dead.

Elaina quickly grabs Lori's hand. "We have to go." The two rush out of the motel, hopping into the cars.

Rick sighs of relief when he sees them. Lori glances out the back window. "Drive." She says.

The cars immediately drive out of Honey Grove.

The men will soon find Brent, dead in the motel. By that time, they will be long gone.

To where? They don't know.

A few minutes into the drive, Lori gently grabs Elaina's hand who is pale in the face.

Elaina looks at her.

"Thank you." Lori whispers.

The woman just nods.

After that day, the group never found another place as safe.

Months pass.

Food and water run low. Gas is harder to come by. They've checked every place they can.

It's been so long since they've had a good nights sleep. A home.

They never stay in a place longer than a day or two.

Over the span of that time, Lori and Elaina make up.

After the situation with Brent, it made them bond. They had a long conversation about Rick and Carl.

Lori apologized for the way she was treating Elaina. She forgave her.

Daryl and Elaina started going on lots of mini runs together. They don't talk much when they do, but the friendship is certainly there.

It's been five long months.

Lori is very pregnant now. She's gonna give birth any day now. Everyone is exhausted and dirty. Everyone is scared even if they don't show it.

The group is on the road again. They slow to a stop and most of the group gets out of the cars, meeting at the front of the caravan.

Elaina unfolds a map and sets it on the hood of the car. "We've got no place to go."

Maggie nods. "When this herd meets up with this one, we'll be cut off, we'll never make it south." She says, pointing at the map.

The walkers have been clustering together. More than usual. In order to save stamina and ammo, they just outrun them. Killing isn't the main priority anymore.

Daryl looks at Glenn. "What do you say, it's about 150 head?"

"That was last week, could be twice that now."

Hershel points at a different spot. "This river could have delayed them. If we move fast, we might have a shot to tear right through this."

Carol sighs. "Yeah, but if this group joins with that one, they could spill out this way."

Beth groans slightly. "So we're blocked?"

Rick rubs his head. "Only thing to do is double back at 27th and swing towards Greenville."

Elaina looks at him. "We picked through that already, it's like we spent the winter going in circles."

He nods. "Yeah, I know. I know. At Newnan we'll push west. Haven't been through the area. We can't keep going house to house."

He glances back at one of the cars where Lori sits in the passenger seat. "We need to find some place to hold up for a few weeks."

Everyone nods in agreement.

"Alright. Is it cool if we get to the creek before we head out? It won't take long. We gotta fill up on water, we can boil it later." T-Dog asks.

Rick nods. Glenn and Maggie tag along with T-Dog.

Daryl walks up to Elaina. "Hey, while the others wash their panties, let's go hunt."

She huffs out a laugh, kissing Rick briefly before walking into the woods with Daryl.

They walk in silence for a while.

After a bit, Daryl clears his throat. "Can I ask sumthin?"

She nods.

He stops walking and looks at her. "Was Rick really the one to kill Shane?"

She takes a deep breath. "No."

He hums. "Figured as much. Bastard deserved it."

She tries to smile but the movement feels foreign.

They walk a bit more and end up coming to a clearing. In the distance is a large building surrounded by fences.

It's a prison.

The courtyard is filled with walkers. Daryl mumbles. "That's a damn shame."

She tilts her head. "Maybe not." She glances at him out of the corner of her eye. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

He stares back at her before his lip curls into a smirk. "Hell yeah."
