Chapter 3 - Freedom
published: April 21 2023

Bluebell pecked at the cage surrounding her, trying to escape from what that human had put her in. She cooed sadly, knowing that it was futile. She couldn't escape... unless someone let her go. And who would? Humans had taken her, and they didn't show mercy. As far as Bluebell knew, she would be killed within the next hour.

Footsteps echoed through the hallway, and the double doors of the so-called hospital opened. Bluebell expected the brown-haired man with the camouflage jacket to walk in, and she braced herself for death. However, she was surprised to be greeted by a young, golden-blonde-haired girl who seemed to be around 6 years old. She scanned the room - seemingly looking for something. Bluebell cooed again, hoping to get the girl's attention. After all, this could be her only chance to escape.

The girl looked in her direction and gasped when she saw Bluebell. "Dovey! What are you doing here? Who put you here?"

She looked worriedly in the direction of the door, and told her, "Don't worry, Dovey. I'm going to help you go free and fly!" the girl lifted her arms and flapped them. "How ridiculous." Bluebell thought. "Humans can be so strange sometimes. Am I going to be called 'Dovey' forever if I am not freed?"

The girl fiddled with the lock for a second, and then it snapped open with a satisfying click.

Bluebell hopped over to the only open window in the room, high up near the ceiling. She took one last look at the girl who saved her; and told herself that one day, she would come back and thank her.

Then, Bluebell took off towards the sky.

She was finally free.
