Like she said, they weren't allowed past midnight.
Not at all.
There was a law about it. Things always hapened past midnight. And by things, she meant bad things.
Not robers. Not a gang. Not anything of the sort. She meant Dark things.
And Dark things were bad things.
Dark things were horrible things, night things, mysterious things, violent things. They were living things. They were feared things.
They only came out passed midnight and never broke anything, never stole anything. They were looking. Looking for something.
Even though they never took anything, they were hid from, they were feared. But thats just what everyone thought.
Not Maggie.
Maggie never knew why people would be scared, but when she mensioned it, all of them had scared looks on their faces and looked at her like she was crazy.
All but one.
Cody understood. He said he felt the same way. Cody was like her. Cody was going through the same things she did. He also had an adopted family.
Cody had brown hair with blue eyes. He had perfect teeth, always smiling. Maggie, well, she was complicated. She had brown-blond hair. You could never tell her eye-colour. It was something of everything. It was between green, brown and yellow. Even though they had different hair colour and eyes, they had the same features. They both had dimples and slim faces.
They looked alike.
They thought alike.
They were alike.
Cody was the only person she allowed up her tree.
Like he once, referring to the Dark things, said: "No one ever really saw one. We don't know who they are. Whe don't know what they're doing. We should not be afraid. They never did anything to us. But people are strange things. They're afraid of anything thats different." He said it with so much passion that it was hard not to believe him. But Maggie knew that sentence was double-meaning.
Maggie and Cody were different from the rest . They were left out. And the people were afraid of them.
Both of them would sleep over at her house and watch through the closed window. They never saw anything. But Cody and Maggie knew they were there. They could feel it, and they knew it.
They would stay up the whole night.
And stay up the next night.
They didn't mind.
They would lay next to each other on the floor and stay lost in thought.
As long as they knew they had some one next to them that understood them...
