King's Cross Station was packed.
Families and businessmen alike were all in the same place, whether it be for work or school.
Their own thoughts and plans deeply engrossed everyone there. So much so that barely anyone noticed the people dressed in mismatched outfits and cloaks, nor did they see the owls and those running through barriers
The Winters were an exception to this. All four of them were well aware of the magical barriers, Lucille being the first to call it out.
Matthew and Lucille were both equally excited by the magic, while their parents had yet to come to terms with the idea of it.
"The man-"
"His name is Dumbledore, dad!" The brother and sister said in unison.
"Fine," Brian agreed, rolling his eyes. "Dumbledore said to run through that barrier right there." He pointed to said barrier, which would lead them straight to Platform 9¾.
Lucille grinned and grabbed her brother's arm, shaking it, causing both kids to jump up and down.
The family of four took a deep breath before running through the barrier.Platform 9¾ was magnificent.
The old scarlet locomotive was massive, as well as elegant. It was otherworldly, like stepping onto it would bring one right to the magical world-a portal.
The witches and wizards were no less fascinating. With their long, thoroughly decorated robes or even old cloaks. Their financial status didn't matter to Lucille; they were all just as magical and majestic as each other.
"What's that?" Matthew asked, his mouth agape as he pointed to a small creature with pointed ears and huge green eyes.
"Oh my God, that's so cool!" She exclaimed.
"Language, Lucille." Yasmin said, looking down at her first-born with nothing but love in her eyes.
The goodbyes were quick- Lucille couldn't wait to enter the portal to the magical world.
After receiving tight hugs from her parents, and giving a even tighter one to her brother, Lucille ran off.The train's interior was no less beautiful than the exterior, though that might just have been the excitement Lucille felt.
Just about anything would be overwhelmingly wonderful to her at that point.
Most compartments were full, with witches and wizards of all ages catching up with friends and homework.
It took her a while, but she eventually found a compartment with space for her, and although not empty, the students occupying it all looked nice enough.
Lucille opened the door and looked at the occupants, two red-headed boys who seemingly only were a couple of years older than her. "May I sit here?" She asked with a smile.
"Ah, a first year." One of them said and looked at the other, both wearing a smirk on their faces. "Do you think she may sit in here, Fabian?"
"Hmm, I'm not sure." The other said. "What do you think, Gideon?"
She looked back and forth between them as they both stared at them. "Won't kill us, will it now?" Gideon said, and Fabian nodded.
"Enter, first year."
Lucille had never met someone quite like Gideon and Fabian, and she was pretty unsure about whether she liked them or not, but she still sat down next to Fabian.
"So, what house do you want?" Gideon asked.
"House?"
Then the twins explained how Gryffindor was the house of bravery and chivalry, Slytherin was the house for the ambitious and cunning, Ravenclaw was for those who were intelligent and witty, and Hufflepuff was for people who valued patience and loyalty.
Lucille couldn't do anything but sit and stare, overwhelmed by all the new information.
"So, what house?"
"Ehm, I want to be smart," She said, still confused and doubtful, "so Ravenclaw, maybe?"
"At least it's better than Slytherin and Hufflepuff." Fabian shrugged.
She decided not to ask any questions, not sure if she wanted more confusing answers. The rest of the train ride went by faster than expected, and the three students quickly arrived at Hogsmeade Station.
Lucille was about to follow the twins to the carriages when she heard a voice loudly calling out.
"Firs'-years! Firs'-years over here!" She turned around and searched for the source of the voice, which proved to be easy due to the man's large figure. "C'mon, follow me - any more firs'-years? Mind yer step, now! Firs'-years follow me!"
She expected him to direct them to the carriages, but instead, he led them to dozens of boats by a large body of water.
It was beautiful, and were it not for the fact that Lucille couldn't swim, she was confident that it would have been a wonderful boat trip, but it wasn't.
She got seated next to a girl named Dorcas Meadows, whose funny nature made the boat trip slightly more bearable, but it didn't make her any less nauseous.
The boat rocking from side to side, and the significant waves paired with freezing cold rain and wind made it so that Lucille threw up the instant they made it to land again.
She heard Dorcas let out a small giggle, and although Lucille felt terrible, she could see some humour in the situation. The castle was unlike anything Lucille had ever seen, and that was just judging from the outside.
The outside was huge, enchanting, surrounded by mountains, forests, and water. It looked like one of those fairytales her grandmother used to read her.
"I hope we get into the same house!" Dorcas said as they walked into the castle. "I want to be a Slytherin, just like my parents."
Lucille was just about to answer when a middle-aged woman came down the grand stairs and approached the group of eleven-year-olds.
"That's Professor McGonagall," Dorcas whispered, "she's the head of Gryffindor House and deputy Headmistress."
Lucille nodded absentmindedly as she kept looking at Professor McGonagall. She hoped she wouldn't be sorted into Gryffindor. McGonagall looked stern and mean, and the way her long robes dragged across the floor made it look like she was constantly busy.
Mcgonagall looked the students up and down, letting her gaze rest on Lucille longer than the rest. "Follow me." She simply said, and the group of first-years all followed her.
Dorcas had to drag Lucille along at some points, as she was too busy admiring the moving paintings and stairs with a will of their own.Their walk came to an abrupt stop when the professor told the students to stay still while she left to check on something.
A stocky boy with a sour face stepped over to Lucille and Dorcas with a smirk.
"Meadows, I see you've already found yourself in unfortunate company." He said.
Lucille's eyebrows furrowed and she looked over to her new friend, who looked furious.
"Actually, Lucille already knows tons of hexes," Dorcas lied smugly, "best watch out, or she'll come for you, Amycus."
"How's she supposed to know hexes already when she's a mudblood?"
Now, Lucille had no clue what that word meant, but she knew when she got called a slur, and she wasn't going to just take it.
"Do you want me to prove it, then?" She cocked her eyebrows, hoping it would make her seem more confident.
"S-"
Someone cleared their throat, McGonagall had entered the hallway again.
"The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses." She said once she made sure all attention was on her. "The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts"The Great Hall was filled with chatter and whispers as new students entered, waiting to see where they'd spend the next seven years.
Once the first-years had all gathered in a line, Professor McGonagall stepped up to the podium, where a three-legged stool and an old hat had been placed.
"Carrow, Amycus." She called out, her voice clear across the entire hall.
Once the hat had been placed on his head, it immediately called out, "Slytherin!" and so the whole table cheered, and Dorcas informed Lucille that the entire Carrow Family had been Slytherins.
The list went on and students were sorted accordingly. Dorcas was placed in Slytherin, just as she had wanted.
Then came Lucille, and she could hear her heartbeat as she sat down and had the hat placed on her head.
Hmm, a curious one. Your bloodline indicates Slytherin, of course, but you're hardworking
The hat spoke, and Lucille's eyes widened.
The question is where you'd thrive, and I think that has to be...
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
She didn't care where she ended up, as long as she would be done being the centre of attention.
She breathed out, relieved, and stumbled down to the cheering hufflepuffs, happy to be blending in again.
Of course, that wasn't to last forever.AN: Year one will have a lot of large time jumps between chapters, and I'm guessing all of year one will fit in 3-6 chapters.
The next years will have less time skips, at least that's the plan.
