8 Years Later:
Pihu's POV:
I pace back and forth with nervousness.
Awards.
They're a nerve-wracking thing. You never know if you're going to be the winner or just be left a nominee. I bite my lip with worry as all the nominees gather behind the stage.
Soon the announcer reveals the award category and each of the nominees' names. The wait feels like forever but I finally hear them say "And the winner for business person of the year is...." my heart pounds in my chest, "Priyanka Kaur Kapoor!"
It takes me a minute to register the words and my face lights up with joy. My fellow nominees congratulate me and I make my way over to the stage. I simply can't believe it.
My hands tremble as I accept the trophy. I scan the room, looking for the people that will help me calm down. I find Dev, my friends, and my family seated in the side row still applauding.
With a smile, I start my speech.
"I would like to start off by thanking the board for giving me this wonderful award. Many of you know me as Dev Kapoor's wife, but before that, I've been the co-owner of Amraj and CO. for the past 11 years. This award isn't just for me but for everyone who works hard at Amraj. Shraddha, my wonderful co-owner who slaves day and night for our company. Every employee and vendor who work so hard in organizing every event. My parents who have supported me in my dream and made me capable of even starting a company. My wonderful husband, who values my career over his own. And lastly, my daughter. Diya, this one is especially for you. To show you that if you believe hard enough, you could have it all. Thank you." I blow a kiss in Dev's direction and head off the stage.
After the ceremony is over, I run out of the room to find my family.
Before I could spot them, little hands grip my leg, and a face snugs in between my thighs.
"Ahh, there you are my jaan, "I say grabbing the hands. (My life.)
"Mumma, papa.." Diya points as I pick her up.
I give her a big hug and walk over to wear my family is standing with a big bouquet.
"Oh my! These are bigger than Diya," I laugh, giving everyone a hug.
We all laugh and head out for a celebratory dinner.
While eating, Dev pulls me aside. "Pihu, I am so proud of you," He says stroking my hair.
"Dev, thank you. Thank you for supporting me, thank you for staying with Diya when I was busy with work and not accepting my films when I had my busy seasons." I smile at him and hold his hand.
"Are you kidding, none of your success is my work. It's all you. Of course, I would support you, you're my wife and the mother of my child. And I am not doing something different just because I am helping take care of my own child." Dev's words give me so much contentment and happiness.
I look up and see Diya trying to eat the flowers and mix them with her food. We all start laughing as my 3-year-old looks at us in confusion.
Dev walks over to her and cleans her up as I finish eating my food.
From across the table, I mouth to him. "I love you."
"I love you more," he smiles back.
