Song: Hollow Moon by The Crane Wives
Album or single release: Single release
Song meaning: Anxious thoughts haunting someone
Notes/personal connection: I took a trip to New Hampshire to ski once, and me and my dad decided to drive through the White Mountains to another town. As we were driving back, it was really dark, so we parked at a parking lot near Lincoln (where we were staying at) and this was a state forest mind you, so we opened the sunroof, stuck our heads out, and watched the stars for half an hour while listening to this song a few minutes earlier.
--------------------------------------------------------------Ever heard of the Hollow Moon theory?
That the moon has nothing inside of it?
I wish my mind was like that.
The words that come to me won't leave me be.
I always lay down in the backyard every night, looking up at the sky. Where I live, the stars are bright, the moon clear.
Always a full moon.
I never thought that a full moon was strange, that it causes bad things to happen.
I was used to everyone being tired around me, and thought it was normal.
I was thinking about it a while back, and I noticed that the stars didn't look quite right against the dark sky.
Chills crept over my skin as I heard the whispers in my ears.
Saying "Let us in, let us in."
And I've always been worried about something, worried that my family will leave me, the stars won't be there when I sneak outside at midnight to look at the sky.
When the stars didn't look right, I started getting more worried than before.
Like more reasons were coming in.
I walked to school, worked, came home, yet the voices wouldn't let me be.
Years ago, I was a fool. Howling at a hollow moon, the thoughts creeping closer than ever.
I went out to seek help, trying to ignore all the thoughts wrapping themselves around me. I don't know if I'm in a bunker or a shallow grave.
The worst part is, no one knows.
Because I'm the last one left.
All I ever wish is that they would leave my head and I could make it in the day.
For once.
