Aren't you just a pocket full of sunshine.

I woke up the next morning and groaned. Pain shot through my body after last night. I couldn't help but blame Damon. That bastered just didn't get the hint to leave me alone. I looked at the time and realized I was running late. I got up and threw on my clothes quickly. I ran out of the house and started running down the street and even jay walked. I had to get to school. Today was the day they wouldn announce who the winner was. If Damon was at school it meant the winner was at Manhattan high. He was strangely just as popular as his dad was. I got to school in record time to realize that...I had set my clock an hour fast so I could get everything done...

"Shit." I muttered and made my way to the library for the next hour and a half...if it was open that is. But it wasn't. I groaned and put my head between my legs, I was in such a rush I didn't bother to make sure my hair covered my new black eye along with the still slightly swelled cheek. I trudged to the bathroom and grabbed the hair brush in my bag. I looked at myself. My naturally tan skin seemed yellow from the lack of sun, my once bright green eyes now dull, and my left on blood shot and swollen. My auburn hair  fell down in soft curls. Going down passed my butt. It probably needed a trim, but I couldn't bare to do it. It was the only thing to remind me of my mother. She had left us when she got a job opportunity across the country. Their marriage had been on the rocks anyway. But dad still loved her with all his heart. She didn't feel the same. And I chose to stay with him thinking I could help keep him sane. No I made it worse. But mom never contacted me and I never contacted her.  She just abandoned me. She abandoned our once kind of happy family. Once I was finally done all thoughts of the scholarship abandoned. In fact my mind was offically on my mother. Wondering what she was doing. Was she happy? Did she get remarried? Or have kids that she actually liked?  I didn't pay attention in class. This stuff was easy anyway. High school physics seemed more like biology to me, I stiffled a yawn as the bell rang and I made my way to my locker and headed to Pre-Cal.

"The only thing Damon would say is that it's a girl and that she's here." Some girls whispered beside me.

"Who do you think it could be?"

"I don't know. Theres like no girls here that are interested in engineering or anything."

"If you had to guess who would you think it would be?"

"I think it has to be one of the quiet girls. Maybe it's Natalie."

"When is it going to happen?"

"6th period. They're trying something different this year. Theres gonna be a pep ralley for winter break and than they're going to introduce her and I guess now she gets to be an intern for Tony Stark. She gets to spend all her time with all those sexy men. I'm so jealous. I should have applied just because." They giggled and left, I rolled my eyes and made my way to class. I inwardly groaned, I had this class with Damon. We'e had classes together since kindergarden and not once has he talked to me and he decides to now?

School went by and by the time 6th period came around I was ready to go home. Next best thing to do? Hide in the bathroom. I can just leave it's not like anyone will notice my disappearance.

"Uhmm...could I use the restroom?" I asked Mrs. Bunerd.

"No deary sorry. After the pep ralley though." I sighed but nodded. We all piled into the large gym and sat in our designated areas. I went to the far top corner of the section for the seniors and twidled my thumbs. Over to the side you could see some photographers and Tony and Damon along with the rest of the Avengers. The cheer leaders began cheering and they had games and announcments and blah blah blah. The normal things at a pep ralley I guess. I sat there twidling my thumbs and messing with my hair. At one point I felt eyes on me and saw Damon say something to his father. Than he looked...than they were all looking at me. It scared me. What was Damon saying to them? His dad said something than pushed him towards me. He walked along the side as our mascot did random tricks. I don't  think many noticed him at that moment as he walked up the stairs, most were more focused on the dancing tiger in the middle of the room. People can be so simple minded.
