Gamzee Makara had always been a bit of an enigma. He had a laid-back, carefree attitude that seemed to draw people to him. He was always smiling, always laughing, always ready to have a good time. But as the sweeps went by, something changed in Gamzee. He became more distant, more withdrawn. He stopped hanging out with his friends, stopped going to parties. He seemed to be lost in his own world, a world that no one else could understand.
It wasn't until later that Karkat found out what was really going on. He noticed the scars on Gamzee's arms, the way he would flinch at the slightest touch. He noticed the way Gamzee's smile didn't quite reach his eyes, the way he would stare off into space for hours on end.
Karkat tried to talk to Gamzee, to see what was wrong, but Gamzee would always brush him off. He would say that he was fine, that he was just tired. But Karkat knew that something was wrong. He knew that Gamzee was hurting, and he wanted to help.
It wasn't until one night, when Karkat heard Gamzee crying in his room, that he finally confronted him. He burst into the room, only to find Gamzee sitting on the floor, tears streaming down his face. He had a razor in his hand, and he had been cutting himself.
Karkat was shocked. He had never seen Gamzee like this before. He didn't know what to do. But he knew that he couldn't leave Gamzee alone.
He sat down beside Gamzee, taking the razor out of his hand. He held Gamzee close, listening as he poured out his heart. Gamzee told him about the darkness that had been consuming him, about the pain that he couldn't escape.
Karkat listened, and he held Gamzee close. He knew that there was no easy fix for what Gamzee was going through, but he also knew that he would do everything in his power to help.
Over the next few sweeps, Karkat and Gamzee worked together to help Gamzee overcome his depression and his self-harm. They talked for hours on end, working through Gamzee's pain and his issues. They spent time together, doing things that Gamzee enjoyed, like playing music or going for walks.
It wasn't always easy. There were times when Gamzee would slip back into darkness, when he would cut himself or refuse to eat. But Karkat was always there for him, always ready to offer a helping hand.
Slowly but surely, Gamzee started to heal. His scars began to fade, and his smile became more genuine. He started to reconnect with his friends, to go out and have fun again.
It wasn't a quick fix, and it wasn't always easy. But with Karkat's help, Gamzee was able to overcome his depression and his self-harm. He was able to find a way back to the light, to a world that was full of possibility and hope.
And as they sat together, watching the sunrise over the horizon, Karkat knew that he had done something truly special. He had helped a friend in need, and he had shown him that there was always a way
