"I wouldn't do that if I was you." Akshara had barely made it to the hotel room door when she was stopped in her steps as she felt the firm, baritone voice call out to her from behind.
Shit!
How was he awake so early? She had drugged him, hadn't she? She remembered spiking his drink.
"You might want to open my wallet up first before you decide to do something stupid."
Her body screamed for her to drop everything and run. Run away. But she went against every fiber of her being which was screaming danger and did as she was told. She opened the wallet and sucked in a deep breath.
Inside the wallet in the laminated frame of the wallet was a single piece of ID:
Abhimanyu Birla, Central Bureau of Investigation.
So he wasn't Kabir Singhania like he told her? Yesterday, at the bar?
Akshara sucked in her breath and turned to face Abhimanyu, who was leaning against the bed frame in all his naked glory.
He held his hand out. "My wallet."
Akshara's hands trembled as she walked back towards Abhimanyu. As soon as she handed him the wallet, he snapped handcuffs on her outstretched wrists.
Akshara's eyes widened as she tried to pull her wrist back from Abhimanyu, but failed.
"Akshara Goenka. The formidable thief. The one who lures innocent men into her lair and wipes them clean. I've been tracking you since the very first time you fell into our radar. But unfortunately I have never been able to get through to you. To catch you. Until yesterday."
"I...I don't know what you are talking about." Akshara tired to be coy. But she knew she was knee deep in trouble. "I am not a thief."
"Oh really? Then what were you doing with my wallet?"
"I don't know how it came to me..."
"So my wallet magically jumped out of my pants and into your hands? Crazy isn't it?"
"What can I say? Life is crazy." She shrugged innocently.
"You are under arrest, Akshara." All signs of humour and sarcasm disappeared from Abhimanyu's face and instead was replaced with a scowl.
"But why?"
"Oh cut the innocent act. You know what you did. Stealing from men. Deceiving them? Identity theft? Do you want me to go on? You know, I just never thought you'd fall low enough to sleep with men to fulfill your means."
Akshara's brows furrowed at Abhimanyu's anger. Why did he feel like he was more angry at the thought of her sleeping with men the he was for stealing from them?
"What? I...don't...I don't sleep with unknown men."
"You slept with me." He grit out.
Akshara lowered her lashes. How was she supposed to tell him that he sleeping with him —it had nothing to so with the job? That she...she slept with him because for once, once in her life, she wanted to know how it felt to belong. To...to feel.
The stealing —that was a habit she couldn't break.
"You...you aren't like the other men, Abhimanyu. I slept with you...because I wanted to."
"Then why drug me?"
"Force of habit. A safety net. Easy escape."
Abhimanyu scoffed. "I won't fall for any of your lies."
"Don't. Don't believe me. But please know. The men I work for —they are very dangerous men. If they don't hear from me by a certain time —they will come for me. Please." Akshara pleaded.
"You are right. I don't trust you." Abhimanyu got up from the bed as he handcuffed himself to Akshara.
Akshara stared at Abhimanyu as he put on his underwear and dressed himself up. She tried to not stare but it was turning out to be impossible since she was literally handcuffed to the man.
"Let's go." Abhimanyu growled, dragging her out of the hotel and into his car.
"Abhimanyu..."
"Not a word or I will tape your mouth shut. I won't be sweet talked."
Akshara zipped her mouth as she sat in the car. Abhimanyu uncuffed her from his wrist and handcuffed her to the inside of the car.
He then went to the other side and sat down on the drivers seat. He keyed the ignition and stepped on the race pedal, storming out of the parking lot.
Abhimanyu felt an innate amount of anger towards Akshara. Not for the thievery. That was the least of his worries. He was more appalled by how she willingly spelt with any guy she so she could steal from them.
That is what made him angry. He hated to even think of her talking to other men let alone sleeping with them to fulfill her materialistic needs.
"Where are you going? Isn't the highway to Delhi that way?" Akshara asked, in a panicked state.
If not to the CBI headquarters, then where was Abhimanyu taking her?
"We are not going to the CBI headquarters." Not until I get the answers I want, he added silently.
Abhimanyu gripped the steering wheel tightly as he trotted on the race, zooming past all the other cars on née road until they were met with empty, barren roads.
"Are you going to kill me? Is that the plan? An encounter?" Akshara panicked.
Before Abhimanyu could reply, two cars began following them and 2 motorcycles zoomed past them. Abhimanyu's eyes narrowed onto the road as the motorcycles turned around, guns in hand as they began shooting at Abhimanyu and Akshara.
"What the..." Abhimanyu had barely gotten the words out of his mouth when Akshara spoke.
"They found me." She whispered, her voice meek as the colour drained from her face. Her eyes looking terrified.
Before she could say anything else, a row of bullets began hurling towards them and they felt cornered from every angle.
Fuck.
