The night was cool. A type of cool that touched every corner of the inside of your body that triggers a shiver inside of you. The sight of the stars was sacrifice enough to force you to sit outside in the middle of the night. Even with the art above it didn't stop hat dread that reside within your chest.

Your eyes focused on the pole at the center of town. The pole of protection; the demon's homing beacon. The Meer sigh of the pole had your body shaking in fear forgetting the cold almost immediately. The cold was still comforting in a sick way. The sacrifices to the demon every month were normal in your small village. It was never out of the ordinary. You couldn't even remember when your village started to feed the demon dwelling in the forest. All you ever have been taught was that if you want something good in life you have to sacrifice something.

You sacrifice a bow when shooting at a rabbit. You sacrifice sleep to finish working. You sacrifice a rabbit to tame your hunger. You must give something in order to gain something. That was the ideology you knew. You were just the unlucky one to believe in that rather than the dark ideology of sacrificing friends to a demon to protect your home.

The cold suddenly disappeared from your body causing you to look over. You were met with the bright smile of Kyojuro. You released an unconscious sigh of relief. That's how pleasant his aura was.

"Oh hello", you greeted.

"Why are you awake at this time", Kyojuro questioned his voice still loud. You swore it shook the walls. "Just admiring the night sky", you lied. "It is late, you might catch a cold", he replied. "You should be resting Kyojuro", you told. "As you should be too", he countered. You released a small chuckle.

"Touché", you replied. Kyojuro laughed at you as he took his place beside you. He so sat close you could feel the heat of his body. It felt tempting the heat. You glanced at Kyojuro out of the corner of his eye. He stared up at the night sky with bright eyes. He turned to you. When the two of you made eye contact his smile grew causing you to look away.

"You have been staring at that pole for a while now", he pointed out. "It is our beautiful landmark", you sighed. "Is there a story behind it", he asked which you hummed in approval.

"The first people to come here placed that pole deep into the ground", you told. "The pole is a promise that our village will always remain pure, and safe and that we will always prosper".

"That is interesting", Kyojuro commented. "Mhm it is hence why you don't have to stay here long Demon Slayer", you said. "There are no demons or other dangers", you lied. "Can you look me in the eyes then"?
