The movie wasn't even that scary; as long as it stayed just that, a movie. When it ended, then they added a black screen saying 'based on a true story' right before the credits, that was when your attitude changed.

"What the hell does that mean?" You ask at the sight of the message. "Are they saying the demon is real? What if he comes and tries to kill me in my sleep?"

James laughs while folding up the blanket you had been cuddling under. "Nothing's gonna happen to you. I won't let it."

"Oh yeah?" You challenge teasingly. "And how are you going to protect me?"

"Come on, babe. Look at these muscles. I can totally fight off a demon!"

He flexed his biceps and you let out a giggle over his confidence. His arms did strain against the black t-shirt sleeves, and you wondered if he really could fight off a horror movie monster.

You played into it, even just to flatter him. "My hero, my knight in shining armour!"

His face was adorned with a cocky grin that you know your praise added to. "See? As long as you stay with me, I'll keep that demon away from you."

You whispered your thanks then stepped away from him to turn off the living room light, but James grabbed your hand rushedly before you could touch the switch.

"You can't turn the light off! Are you mad?"

At his comment, you realised why his eyes were so wide; he was scared too. He was hiding it in an adorable way, so you decided against pointing it out.

"Why not?" You asked, knowing the real answer already.

"I can't fight off the demon in the dark. I have to keep the lights on so I can keep you safe."
