M/N POV

After shortly responding to Hange's burning questions, the group of soldiers leaves me alone, informing me that there will be a trial to decide me and another person's fate. I have not heard much about the other person... but I doubt he's actually like me. Apparently, he has the ability to turn into a powerful titan, capable of causing mass destruction in an instant. Laying back down on the mattress, I try to keep my pulsing headache at bay as I reflect on what happened just in the past 24 hours. I escaped the underground... Came face to face with Titans, revealed my power to soldiers and now I'm going on trial... I close my eyes shut as I try not to think about my impending doom, before feeling the relief of sleep hit me and I lose consciousness.

*flashback start*

"M/N... You really are the perfect candidate for this."

"W-what? I don't understand. Why are - "

"Hush now... It's okay... someone like you could never understand. You understand your purpose, don't you? Now, let's get back to -

*flashback end*

I awake abruptly to the sound of talking, and as I rub open my eyes I see Hange talking with two other soldiers, before turning toward me with a manic smile. "Rise and shine, sweetheart! It's time for your trial, aren't you excited?" I stare at her, still half asleep before frowning at her as one of the soldiers opens the door, escorting me out of the cell. Laughing at my anger, Hange proceeds to talk about a whole lot of nonsense as I try my best to block her out. As we reach two wooden double doors, Hange abruptly stops before looking at me. "We won't be going in with you, but the survey corps will do our absolute best to keep you from the hands of the MPs." I am slightly shocked at her seriousness, but that feeling is replaced with annoyance as she laughs loudly again, opening the door and waving goodbye like she was dropping me off at school, not to my impending death.

Entering the massive courtroom, I am yet again met with a sense of dread as I look around. I don't know much about legal junk... but this place is super fancy. And the fancier the place, the larger the crime and the more likely you never come back out. I'm in deep trouble. My thoughts are interrupted by the soldier escorting me pushing my back harshly, obviously wanting me to keep moving. I hurriedly move forward, before slowing down my pace and staring at the people in the courtroom. Some are whispering to each other, while others look at me with disgust or shock. As I walk into the middle of the room, I am forced down on my knees and restrained to a metal pole. Everyone's whispers are ceased when an old man clears his throat loudly. Looking towards him, I feel as though I am shrinking in size as he begins to speak. "You are M/N... Correct?" He asks, his voice filling the large courtroom. Staring forward at the man, I manage to speak out "Yes. That's me." He seems indifferent to my response, shuffling some papers before he continues to speak. "M/N. You have been presented in front of the court today due to suspicions of your betrayal of humanity. How will you plead?"

Blinking for a moment, I try to process what he says. Betrayed... Humanity? I didn't do anything wrong, did I? Also, what does he mean by pleading? Is this more rich people talk that I'm unfamiliar with? Before I can even respond, a man dressed in a robe begins to shout "You see? This monster of a boy can't even defend himself, as he knows the sins he has committed! My people, do not be fooled by his appearance. I am sure this boy is a devil in disguise!" I shift uncomfortably, staring at the man as he looks me straight in the eye. "He is - " "Order in the court" The old guy booms, shutting up the frantic man in an instant. "I will ask you again. How do you plead?" I look around the room in a panic, unsure of what to say until I notice a certain blonde commander and his stoic-looking subordinate.

Levi POV

What is he doing? My eye twitches involuntarily as the crowd begins to grow more restless. All he has to say is not guilty, and we can proceed with this stupid trial. As M/N looks around the room, he seems to notice me and Erwin and looks at us desperately. Of course. He's just a child. He has no place in a courtroom, let alone being on trial. I look at Erwin and he seems to have come to the same conclusion, speaking out "If I may, Zachary, I feel as if the court has made a misstep." Zachary quirks his eyebrow at this, beckoning Erwin to continue. "I understand the court has its methods, but this is a child we are speaking of. He is most likely not even ten years old, and I ask the jury to take this into consideration in terms of his case." He finishes, and I fold my arms into a cross, silently backing Erwin up. It's true, after all. This trial is filled with idiots who piss their pants at any sight of danger... It is not absurd to question they'd go as far as dissecting a child to keep themselves safe.
