"Oh my god, even her girlfriend is hot," Pom swore as Tia and Ela met. The vampire picked up her girlfriend who wrapped her legs around her hips. "And the height difference," Pom fanned herself when the two were not in a position to pay any attention to her. "Oof!"

"It's sexy," Rel nodded in assent.

Dao wasn’t really loving this topic of bonding between Rel and Pom.

After a steamy make out session that made the other three look away, Tia pulled back to get a good look at her girlfriend. "Are you hurt?"

With a last smooch, Ela put her girlfriend down on the ground. Dao hadn't paid attention to their height difference before but he was curious now, so he did a quick estimation with his eyes. The crown of Tia's head came up to her chest.

Ela patted her head and said, "I'm a vampire, baby. I can't get hurt." As soon as Tia's eyes landed on the scars on her arms, Ela wrenched her arms out of her hold and hugged her tight. "You know that's going to heal soon, hm? Am I hurt? No, Tianet, my love, I'm not. Am I emotionally hurt? Well… yes," her voice shook. She had been holding back for so long, now she couldn't anymore. She finally let go with a defeated sigh. "I was scared. I thought they would purge me and I would never see you again."

"I know," Tia ran her hands in comforting circles along the long expanse of her back. "You are safe now. I'll never let go, I promise."

The sight of them made Dao yearn. If only Dao knew for sure if Rel felt anything remotely close to this for him. Sure they sidled up close to him, they even fell asleep on his shoulder earlier, but Dao was ready to dismiss those instances as Rel's typical behavior. What if they were just seeking some comfort from him? He hadn't been close to a zombie before this, but it was hard to believe that such things weren't normal for them. The packs of zombies they had passed seemed more physically affectionate than Pom and Dao could ever manage.

"I'll kill them, whoever did this to you," Tia's voice took on a sharp edge.

"It's more complicated than that," Ela said between hiccups. With Dao and Rel's input in the right places, she finally finished relating the entire incident to her girlfriend.

"Sorry, I'm confused," Pom interjected. "Are we helping humans now?"

Dao wasn’t sure either. It had been one rollercoaster of a day. Not only did they make their first kills in decades but also turned a human child into an undead in the name of saving them.

"Can't we just pick a side?" Pom asked him again.

Dao noticed how Rel would usually be excited to pick the violent side in such discussions but today they were silently watching him. He needed to answer Pom, who had just made their first kill today.

He picked a dry leaf out of Pom's hair and received a swat on his arm right away. Despite that, he flung the leaf behind himself and brushed imaginary specks of dust off of Pom's hair. This time Pom didn't push him away. She knew he was building up to something that was making him fidget like that.
