Abigail
As I push around the peas on my plate, chin in palm I begin to conduct a plan to get to the party and see Brandon, should I lie? Come up with a lame excuse to get out the house for a few hours and rush to the party, or should I be honest? I mean I just finished high school soon would be graduation – how could they deny this one request. "Abigail, your father is talking to you." my mother's voice interjects, "I'm sorry, yes dad?" I ask apologetically.
He gave a clarifying cough and restated his question "I was asking, have you decided on a school yet"? Reaching for his glass of water. "Well, I was thinking Northwestern or Aurora University." I responded, confidently as if I had spent the last few weeks in the guidance office researching schools and not staring at the back of Brandon's beautiful head instead. "More like the Community College system." Jessica mumbles as she too drinks her water.
Giving her a nudge under the table I tease "no one asked you Jr." referring to the fact that she rather run with the guys than get a manicure. Childishly she sticks her tongue out at me then continued to eat her mash potatoes. "Anything is good honey." Mom chimes in – she always been so persistent about school; well everything.
Everything had to be planned to the T with her she needed back up plans, an back up – back up plans and if she needed a 3rd back up plan, shed lose her shit.
"I know. I'm working on it." I sighed pushing at my peas some more. A few moments later I gave a little attention seeking cough "so, I was hoping..." I began before my mom interrupted me "no parties." She states placing her dish into the dishwasher.
Instantly my plans of being a goodie two shoes were shot down the drain and I came up with the most reasonable lie I could think of " that's not what I was going to ask, coincidently Margret is having a little college search night at her house for the lady's.
I just figured it would be a good idea seeing as I'm not sure which I want to apply for." I finish confidently as if I wasn't just lying through my teeth. I look over at Jess and can already tell she knows I'm lying: but she just chuckles and continues working on her mashed potatoes. "I don't see anything wrong with that." Dad responses as he stands up to hand mother his plate.
Once dinner was over I was sure to call Brandon and confirm my arrival to the party, I didn't want him to pick me up though he keeps pushing that I do "it's not safe at night". He exclaims, but I'm not trying to get busted by my parents either and they are quick to peep out the window at any random noise they here on my street.
Instead I told him that id meet him there.
The next mission was to find something to wear, I wanted to look sexy enough to grab his attention but classy enough that I didn't look skanky either; But in a closet full of old summer dresses and plain shorts and tee's it was looking pretty impossible to accomplish.
Knock Knock, Jess was standing at the door way, her legs crossed body leaning on the door frame and arms folded across her torso. "Having trouble drama queen"? She chuckles entering the room and plopping on my bed.
"So just how do you plan on sneaking past the gate keeper in anything indecent." She asks tossing up my stuffed monkey Piety that I've gotten from grandpa years ago. "First of all, I'm going to Margret's there's nothing to sneak; secondly get off my bed I didn't invite you in." I responded still savaging through my closet.
"That's bull, you and Margret haven't been friends since end of sophomore year." she protest as I lay down beside her in complete failure; giving out a big sigh I look up at my beautiful, witty sister who personally I think knows too much for her own good. "Don't worry I won't tell." She assures, "I might be able to help you out with the whole "perfect outfit" thing too." She offers getting up from the bed and signaling me to follow her into her room across the hall.
