"I share this with my group of friends, some are from that basketball team I told you about last time…" the dark-haired boy began to tell a new story.
He recognized that he talked a lot, and although Sofía wasn't one to interrupt, that afternoon he noticed that she was a little lost, perhaps disinterested.
"Hey…" he tried to get her attention, but she didn't respond. "Sofia." He pronounced her name a little louder.
"Yes... Sorry, sorry... What were you saying?" She questioned a little embarrassed.
Matthew shook his head slightly in response.
"It's true, I wasn't paying attention to you, sorry. I'm a little distracted, I'm really sorry..." she apologized again, believing that her friend was upset.
Mateo sighed. "You don't need to apologize…I'm not upset…" he said, but he lied. He was upset, not with Sofia really. Sometimes he didn't know exactly how to deal with her, and it annoyed him. She was very reserved and mysterious. He didn't want to sound nosy by asking something she didn't willingly share. But he really wanted to know more about her, more than trivia… He had sometimes wondered if the stories behind his tattoos were similar to something Sofia had already lived through.
He had known her for a while, but the truth was that he didn't know much about her. He had begun to be curious too, but he couldn't find the words to express that to Sofia. As he had said, she was reserved, but had no problem expressing her curiosity about anything.
"You can continue with your story… I'll be attentive, I promise." The girl said with a small smile on her face.
Matthew looked into her eyes with the same tenderness as always and smiled back.
Matthew wasn't going to stay with the desire to ask, swallowing his curiosity. No. Subtly and between amused laughs, he said: "Hey... I want to hear a story from you... Tell me something that is important to you".
That comment upset Sofía for a moment, but she quickly gave an answer, basically using something similar to what he had once told her, to escape from that situation: "The next time we see each other, I'll tell you".
