As a boy, Váli Mikaelson was selfish, and he hated sharing things.
As a matter of fact, he hated sharing things so much that he closed himself off from his twin brother– Finn– and turned his attention to not just his father, but also his little brothers and his little sister.
Then when both Elijah and Klaus had grown some shared affections for Tatia– much like Váli had done himself– when they were still human, he turned his attention off of them and then only brought his attention to his father, his two youngest brothers and his little sister.
But never Finn.
As far as young Váli Mikaelson was concerned, Finn– despite being his older twin brother– was a waste of time and was far too serious for his own good.
That was another thing that he hated.
He hated people that were far too serious about everything, which was why he eventually found himself growing closer to Kol during the millennia that they'd spent as vampires.
And it was because of just how much he hated the seriousness in the situations that he'd found himself in that– instead of handling these situations with a mature approach– he would go out of his way to torment those that bored him and simply enjoyed the terror and fear that those that had opposed him or simply even bored him for that matter because of the rush that it gave him.
But despite his inability to take much of anything seriously because of just how boring that he found them, there was only one thing that he ever took seriously– and that was his family.
Time and time again, he joined his siblings in the wars that they had against those that meant to harm them or those that they loved.
And it was because of his willingness to help his family and his loyalty to them that Klaus had never daggered him as much as he'd daggered Rebekah or Kol.
And it was also because of Váli's unwavering loyalty to his family that Váli would be sent to the town of Mystic Falls with the objective of winning over the "heroes" of Mystic Falls with the intention of getting them to let their guards down and allowing Klaus to do what he needed– and that was to find the human doppelganger and use her to break the curse that had been put on him by their mother Esther over a thousand years ago.
