CHAPTER 1
I frowned as puffy gray clouds covered the beautiful blue sky, blocking out the warm rays of the sun. The wind blew around me, whipping my fiery red hair, and tiny water droplets fell on my face.
I exhaled the sweet smell, the rain always brings out fragrances from the flowers and trees and I loved it but at this moment ,I didn't. It made me angry. On all of the days this week it had to be this one!
Just great! I'm sure I won't get the job now!
My hair was officially a mess, my mascara was running down my face and my lipstick felt all mucky. I was due for an interview at "Bad Girl Clothes" in an hour. What the hell was I going to do? It wasn't like I had time to go back home and change. I was already halfway there. Also, to my dismay, I had to walk there because my car was totaled that morning. Someone accidentally hit it with their car, and barely left a dint, but the dang thing just broke down. I can't blame them though. The car was old as heck and hadn't been used in years. It was bound to stop working soon. I just didn't think it would be on this least expected day.
As I walked towards the huge building, I started to wonder if this was a good idea. I mean, come on. My jacket was soaked, my red hair was probably frizzed and my makeup was a mess. Sigh!
I made it this far, might as well stick it out.
I wasn't a quitter. That's something my mother always taught me. Life was hard for her as a single parent and unfortunately I was heading down the same road. I have a child and the father is definitely not in the picture. So as you can see, I desperately need this job.
So I walked into the building with my head held high even though people were looking at me in confusion and surprise. I sauntered over to the front desk to be greeted by a strawberry blond-haired girl with a heart-shaped face.
Her body language gave off a snobbish aura, not that she didn't have a reason to, she was indeed pretty.
"Good morning, miss. May I help you?"; she asked nicely giving me a warm smile, but I could sense everything about it was fake.
"Yes, I'm here for an interview for the Manager Assistant position"; I replied.
The corner of her thin lips turned down into a frown as she her sharp blue eyes took in my appearance. She scoffed as her eyes returned to my face. Wow, she has some nerve.
"Is there a problem, sweetheart?"; I asked, an eyebrow raised in anger. I might look small, but I can hold my own. She rolled her eyes and chuckled, pissing me off further.
"You're not going to get the job. My sister practically already has it. But you can try if you'd like. Fifth floor, down the hall, last door on the right."
My fist balled up. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I took a deep breath, trying to control myself. She was lucky I didn't have the time to knock her face in. I smiled at her politely before rushing to the elevator. I hoped I got the job just to prove that witch wrong.
Just as the elevator was closing someone stuck their hand between the doors, causing them to reopen. I exhaled and inhaled trying to catch my breath. I could tell I was out of shape since I was out of breath from running such a short distance. I really need to start exercising again.
"Thanks, you're a life saver" I said smiling up, only to have my breath catch in my throat as my eyes met the face of an incredible handsome man.
His hair jet black and spiked, his eyes a piercing forest green color that any woman could get lost in forever, and GOD those lips, so full and pink and totally kissable. His skin tanned and toned and even though he was wearing a suit, you could tell that he, no doubt, had muscles to die for. Too bad I'm not good looking enough for a guy as hot as him to notice a girl like me.
