December 3rd, 2014 —

Footsteps of someone's running along the snowy road echoing as the environment was too quiet that day. The little girl who's running stopped in front of a boy before he could get into a shop he wanted to enter.

“i- wasn't-” the girl kept on catching up her breath because of the running.

“wait, let.. me.. have-”

“a second,” she took a very deep breath and exhaled it as she continued to speak.

“i'm here to bid you a farewell,”

The boy just looked at her with confused look. He couldn't understand what she was trying to say. A farewell. Is she going anywhere?

“what do you mean?”

“are you going somewhere?” he asked.

As what he knows, the girl is an orphan and she could barely have any vacation since she even couldn't affords her school fee. By telling him she wanted to bid him a farewell, he couldn't thought of anything else than just one thing.

“you aren't adopted, right?”

The girl nodded as soon he said that. She reached her pocket and took out something out of it. It's a candy. The same flavoured candy he offered her when they first met.

“it's a little gift,”

“you know,” she said as she placed it in his hand.

“i'm sorry that I didn't showed up for a few days and come back with a farewell,”

“i was busy,”

“with businesses, you know what I mean,”

The boy just remained silence while listening to her explanations. He couldn't made his mind right. He just looked at the candy in his hand and put it in his pocket.

“sure,”

“goodbye then,”

He said as he walked into the shop, leaving the girl hanged without a proper ‘goodbye’. She just sighed when she realized he might be upsets because of the sudden leaving.

“won't you talk to the girl?”

A worker asked the boy as he pointed at the girl who's still standing outside the shop. The boy didn't turned around to look and just shook his head.

“it's better that way,” he said.

“why though?”

“i know her, she'll be fine,”

The boy placed the thing he's gonna buy on the counter to make a payment. It's a locket necklace for the girl since Christmas was around the corner. But he guess, he couldn't give it to her during that day.

“is it for her?” the worker asked.

The boy just nodded, “but I may not give it to her,”

“and what's the reason?”

“no need to know. I'll give her when I see her again in the future,” he said.

“if only I could give her,” he thought.

Present —

“kindly let go of me, please,”

Jake got back to his sense as her voice got into his head. He took back his hand that was holding her wrist and scratched his neck.

“i'm sorry,” he apologized.

“that's fine. My eyes sure caught many other people's attention,”
