Samantha sat at her desk in English class, feeling bored and restless. She had finished her work early and was now tapping her pencil against the desk, waiting for the bell to ring.
As she looked around the room, she caught sight of Tyler sitting a few rows over. He was staring intently at his notebook, scribbling something down with a look of deep concentration.
Samantha felt a sudden pang of curiosity. She had been thinking about Tyler a lot lately, wondering what he was like outside of class. He seemed like such a serious and focused person, but she wondered if he had a more playful side too.
As the bell rang and the class filed out, Samantha gathered up her things and lingered by Tyler's desk. "Hey, Tyler," she said, feeling a bit shy. "What are you working on?"
Tyler looked up and smiled. "Oh, just some writing," he said, closing his notebook. "What about you?"
Samantha shrugged. "Nothing much," she said. "Just feeling a bit restless, I guess."
Tyler raised an eyebrow. "Restless?" he said. "That's not like you. You're usually so focused in class."
Samantha blushed. "I know," she said. "It's just that...I don't know. I feel like I need something more."
Tyler nodded sympathetically. "I know what you mean," he said. "Sometimes I feel like that too. That's why I started writing. It's a way to channel that energy and creativity."
Samantha looked at him in surprise. "Really?" she said. "I had no idea you were interested in writing."
Tyler shrugged. "Yeah, it's just a hobby," he said. "But I enjoy it. Have you ever tried writing before?"
Samantha shook her head. "No, not really," she said. "I don't think I'm very good at it."
Tyler gave her a reassuring smile. "You never know until you try," he said. "Why don't you come to check out the school newspaper sometime? We're always looking for new writers."
"You know Maya also told me that", She chuckled.
"Oh, really", he replied. "Maybe, we had the same thought about you".
"Yeah, probably", I smiled a little.
[Couple minutes later]
As she walked out of the classroom, Samantha felt a newfound sense of purpose. She didn't know what the future held, but she was excited to explore this new opportunity and see where it might lead. Later that day, she approach the door of the newspaper office and walked in.
As she walked in, she saw Tyler sitting at his desk, typing away on his computer. He looked up and smiled as she approached. "Hey, Samantha," he said. "What brings you here?"
"I, uh, I heard you were looking for new writers," Samantha said, feeling her face turn red. "I thought I might give it a try."
Tyler's smile widened. "That's great," he said. "We could use some new talent around here."
He showed her around the office, introducing her to some of the other writers and photographers. Samantha felt a bit intimidated by their experience and talent, but she tried to stay positive.
As she settled in at her desk, Tyler approached her with a story assignment. "I thought this might be a good one for you," he said, handing her a folder. "It's about the new recycling program that the school is starting. You could interview some of the teachers and students and write up a report."
Samantha nodded, feeling a sense of excitement and nerves. She had never done an interview before, but she was determined to do her best.
Over the next few days, Samantha worked hard on her article, interviewing students and teachers and gathering quotes. Tyler helped her with the editing process, giving her tips on how to structure the piece and make it more engaging.
As the deadline approached, Samantha handed in her article, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. She didn't know if it would be good enough to make it into the paper, but she had enjoyed the process of writing it and had learned a lot along the way.
A few days later, Tyler called her into his office with a big smile on his face. "Congratulations," he said. "Your article made it into the paper. And not only that, it's on the front page."
Samantha felt her heart swell with pride as she saw her name in print. She couldn't believe that she had done it. And as she looked over at Tyler, she couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards him. Without his guidance and support, she never would have had the confidence to try in the first place.
