Chapter 2- Forming an alliance

"Okay... I-I think... we're running in circles now" Luigi said, out of breath. They had been running aimlessly around the forest for a while and were trying to avoid any creatures that would give them a hard time. "I'm certain we've passed this same tree at least five times" Luigi sat under the tree in question.

Mario looked behind him but only found more identical trees and vines. They were definitely lost. Suddenly he heard hiccups and sniffling near him. He looked up to see the princess crying silently. How did he not notice this earlier?

"Princess, don't cry, we might be lost but you are safe now. We'll find a way out of here" Mario tried to reassure the princess but she shook her head.

"Its not that" Peach said through her tears "My kingdom. My people. Their all in danger and I can't do anything to save them. And now..." Peach got out of Mario's grip and stood up "...Now they won't have anybody to protect them from...him"

"Who's him?" Luigi got up and walked over to the other two

Peach wiped her tears "Bowser, king of the koppas and ruler of the bad lands. My kingdom and his kingdom have been enemies for centuries. I don't know what he's doing or what his goal is but I know it's not good"

Mario and Luigi looked at each other. "One moment princess" Mario said as he took his brother to the side.

"What are we going to do" Luigi whispered, concerned about the predicament they were in "This Bowser guy is going to be looking for her and when he finds us he isn't going to be too happy"

Mario looked up at Luigi. "Then were going to have to do something about it"

Luigi took a deep breath. "Mario, one of the things I love about you is your bravery and compassion. You'll probably cheat death to save even a small bunny" Luigi's face became serious "but you need to be realistic here. We simply aren't enough to stop this guy. We need to take ourselves out of this situation and-

"-and what Luigi? Hide away and pray that someone else will deal with him? Run all around the world and inevitably become victims to his terrine?" Luigi didn't say anything and only frowned. Mario held Luigi's hands in his own "I know hes a much bigger foe then either of us expected but this what we signed for when we vowed to become kingdom protectors" Mario looked into Luigi's eyes "We have to try"

Luigi stared back at Mario. After a while he sighed "I don't know how I keep on let you convince me to take these crazy risks with you" Luigi nodded "I'm in"

Mario gave a genuine smile to his brother. He turned to the princess. "Your highness, I know things are rough right now, but my brother and I wont stop until we defeat that monster and save not only your kingdom but the world"

The princess smiled, very grateful that the brothers were willing to help her "Then take me with you. I know I do not have a lot of fighting skills but I do want to be helpful"

"Then its settled" Luigi exclaimed

"The three of us will beat Bowser" said Mario

"And save the world doing so" Peach cheered

"YEAH!" They all high fived each other.

"..."

"So what now?" Luigi asked

The three of them tried to find a way out of the forest. "Up there" Peach pointed to a slight opening in the trees "If I can go above the trees, maybe I can find an exit out of here"

Mario and Luigi nodded their heads "Nice idea princess" Mario approved.

"Please, just call me Peach. I consider us friends now" Mario's eyes went wide. Out of everything that could have happened tonight he didn't think he would become friends with the princess. He wasn't complaining though.

Mario moved the trees a little more to give Peach a better window while Luigi prepared to assist Peach. Mario gave a thumbs up signaling he was done and that Peach could go now. Peach ran to Luigi as fast she could in heals. She jumped into his hands and felt herself getting launched into the air. Soon she was above the trees and could see the bright stars in the night sky clearly.

Peach looked around but could not find her kingdom. They had definitely ran far away from the kingdom. Peach frowned once again reminded at the state her home was in right now. She didn't think about it for long, she had a goal now and sulking in her own misery wouldn't save her kingdom. She looked around until she found a small town. "There!" She shouted.

Peach let herself fall down slowly. "There's a small town not too far from here. Surely the forest ends there"

"Then what are we waiting for! Let's-a-go!"

Bowser slammed the castle doors open. He growled, his eyes glowing red and smoke coming out of his nose. Inside Bowser's son, Bowser jr, was sitting on his throne sketching out a drawing on his sketch book.

"Hi papa!" Bowser jr greeted his father. He either didn't notice how angry his father was or he did not care. Bowser did not greet Junior back, instead he stomped into the throne room and sat in his own throne. He crossed his arms and huffed.

"The mushroom kingdom invasion didn't go well?" Junior frowned.

"UGH! THE ONE TIME THAT I'M STRONG ENOUGH TO DESTROY THAT STUPID FORCE FIELD AND SHE JUST DECIDES TO LEAVE!!!" Bowser roared.

"She escaped?"

"Yea. Don't worry though. I have my minions in the nearby jungle to search for her" Bowser said, waving his arms.

Bowser jr frowned, if he knew their minions, and unfortunately he did, he knew that they were pretty incompetent when it came to finding things. Then Juniors eyes lit up, now it was his chance to show his dad what he could do.

"There's a nearby village next to the mushroom kingdom actually. There's a good chance that she might be there"

Bowser looked over to Junior "Alright, I'll tell Kamek to command the koopa troops to search the village-"

"NO!" Bowser jr immediately caught himself "I-I mean, I guess but maybe I should go. I'm much stronger then a goomba or a koppa troopa"

"Er I don't know squirt. I don't think your ready for all that yet" Bowser said, rubbing the back of his head.

"WHAT! Why not! I'm perfectly capable of searching for fragile princesses in small harmless towns! Do you think I'm THAT weak!" Bowser jr said angrily, throwing his sketchbook on the ground.

"No I don't think your 'weak' Junior. Its just-"

"JUST WHAT DAD! Why can't I go!"

Bowser gave an exasperated sigh. "Alright fine you can go..."

Yes, Bowser jr mentally celebrated his victory.

"But your bringing the koopalings with you"

Bowser jr froze and stopped celebrating "Wha- but dad I'm FOURTEEN. I can raid villages on my own"

"Do you want to go or not?" Bowser said giving Junior a strict face.

Now it was Junior chance to be water boiling mad, but he knew better then to argue with his dad so instead he stomped away, grumbling to himself. Junior kicked the door open to Iggy's room where all the other koopalings were hanging out at.

"Alright idiots, get up!" Junior smirked "We got a princess to find"
