The summer solstice was only a few weeks away, and everyone was panicking. Something had been stolen, but the people who knew what it was weren't telling anyone. To make things worse, a boy had been brought over the camp border that passed out after fighting a Minotaur. A Minotaur, for crying out loud. Riley didn't know how the boy was still alive; he didn't look any older than 12.
Riley had been put in charge of the boy, whose name she had forgotten. "When is this kid going to wake up?"
"I don't know, but I hope soon." A voice spoke from the door. The brunette looked behind her to see her friend.
"Hey Annie, what have you been up to?" Riley was happy to see her friend; she had been holed up in her cabin's library researching how many people had survived Minotaur attacks. Sometimes the girl worried for her friend; she always had her nose buried in a book. She wondered how her brain could retain all of that information.
"Just researching, like always. Any updates on the boy?"
"Nope, still out cold. It's kinda funny watching him, he drools when he sleeps." The blonde let out a small laugh, walking towards the boy's bed.
"Don't you have to feed him some nectar, it's been about 10 hours?"
"Oh my gods I almost forgot, thank you for reminding me. What would I do without you?"
"You would probably lose your job in the infirmary." Riley couldn't help but smile at that.
Riley picked up a spoon and started shoveling nectar into the boy's mouth, trying not to spill any. She still couldn't remember the boy's name, Annabeth probably knew, so she decided to ask. "Hey Annie, do you remember the boy's name? I can't seem to remember it." She looked over at the blonde, whose face scrunched up like she was thinking.
"I think his name is Peter; no, it's Percy. Yeah, it's Percy."
A light mumble could be heard from the boy when his name was said. Riley looked back at him and noticed his face scrunching up, almost like he was adjusting to the light. He slowly opened his eyes, and a look of panic appeared on his face.
"What the hell, where am I? Where is Grover? God, is he ok? Who the hell are you two?"
"You drool when you sleep." Was all the brunette could think to say.
"What? No, I don't!"
"How would you know? You were asleep."
"I-I just know I don't drool, and you didn't answer my questions."
"Fine, I'll answer your questions if you tell me what you know about the summer solstice deadline. What was stolen? I want answers. drool face.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Something was stolen? I-I don't know. Just answer my questions, please."
Before Riley or Annabeth could answer, the door to the infirmary almost flew off its hinges. Grover came running in, or more like trotting, looking relieved when he saw Percy was awake.
"Oh my gods, Perce, you scared me. Oh, it's all my fault, I'm supposed to protect you. I'm your protector for crying out loud! I had one job and I couldn't do it. I'm the worst satyr in the world." Grover looked down at his feet with tears in his eyes.
"I'm sure you did a great job, Grover." The satyr looked up to see Annabeth smiling at him.
"Yeah, at least Percy is alive. There wasn't much more you could do." Riley smiled at Grover, she always felt as if Grover was her responsibility. He was a protector for others, and she was his protector. They were stuck together like glue.
"You guys are life savers, thank you so much for taking care of him." Grover was starting to calm down, which was good.
"I'm just doing my job." Riley gave the goat boy a slight smile.
"We'll leave you guys to talk, see you Grover." Annabeth said with a smile.
"Yeah, see you G-man. I'm watching you drool boy." Riley held up her pointer and middle fingers to her eyes and moved them to face the boy.
"Is she always like that?" Percy whispered to Grover.
"Yeah, you don't wanna mess with Riley, she has connections." That scared Percy enough for one day.
