𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟒

The whole place went silent after the words the emperor uttered. I could feel the prickly gazes of the nobles, glancing down at me. 

"Her? Isn't she the previous emperor's fiancee?"

"Why did he chose her of all people?"

I could feel the mumuring arising, each getting bigger then the last.

The words echoed around me as I sighed deeply, my head feeling numb. Did he choose me because nobody had the education to be the empress? I was certaintly a person right to be the empress; I had studied over a decade on how to be the perfect empress, ranged from etiquette to lessons on dancing and musics. Maybe this was the reason Claude chose me. 

"Silence!" Claude yelled as the murmuring reached the pinnacle. There was silence once again. "Lady Alexandra Dalton, will you accept the emperor's request of becoming the empress?" He said as he turned to me, his eyes glinting in the lights of the chandlier.

"I shall comply to the emperor's request." I said as I bowed. My thoughts were brewing like a storm, ready to be awakened. I can only imagine the reasons he chose me, can I?

"We shall hold the wedding in May." Claude implied as he swept off the throne, and stalked off. The guard bowed as he slammed the door shut. 

Silence was followed.

"My lady, what happened? Is everything at the palace all right?" Selena asked worridly. It has been a week since that sudden notice, and I had been quite distraught, to say the least. Even Selena had began to notice. 

Selena had been managing my hair at the powder room that we used for managing makeups and hairs. She brushed my lucious locks back with a curious expression. 

"I-I am fine. It's just a little migrane from all of the paperworks." I said as I sighed. Lately, I had been sighing a lot. Was it because of those worries piling up within me? 

"Oh my dear lady, you can tell me if you have any troubles. Tell me, was it some problems you had in the palace?" Selena asked curiously, her blonde hair swaying back and forth from the wind. 

"It's quite complicated matter.." I trailed off. I was hesitant to tell her about the engagement, but I decided to spill the beans. Selena was just going to keep pressing me for answers if I don't reply. So I told her some details. The time inside the castle hall and the cold look of his majesty claude as he told me to be his suitor. 

"Oh my, I wonder why his majesty said that!" Selena gasped as she gave my hair a finishing touch, a gentle wavy curls at the end. "I am also curious indeed. He could have hunderds of woman begging him to be their husband." I replied. Maybe it was to keep myself in check, since I was associated with the previous emperor? That one would make sense, as I knew that Claude had been supressing some rebellions that had been happening across the country. Majority of the people rejoiced at the fallen tyrant, but some individuals had a different idea. They managed to uphold rebellions in the name of Anastacius. 

What a nerve that they had. 

"We will know his true intentions someday." I said as I got up from the stool. I gave Selena the last pat as I headed out to meet Claude at the lounge.

Claude was sitting elegently as always, drinking herb tea that Selena had set up for him. I curtesyed infront of him as I set on the opposite side of him.
