Chapter 16

At times, you can dream better by staying awake.'

Vivaan snorted at another philosophy his college friend flaunted on their social media accounts. Scrolling the phone's screen, he wondered if they have got nothing better to do in life. He had been surfing mindlessly for the last twenty-five minutes, and this was what he got. Light flashing from the screen burned his eyes, and he blinked involuntarily.

The storm wasn't raging anymore. It was quiet both inside and outside his house.

He lay in bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling. Everyone must be asleep by now. So why wasn't he? He let out a sigh of exhaustion and ran his fingers through his hair. It seemed sleep was eluding him.

No matter how hard he tried to get rest, his usual tricks of getting to sleep weren't working. How was he supposed to fall asleep now? He groggily rubbed his eyes, and a yawn escaped his lips as he turned onto his other side in bed.

After counting about a'hundred and twenty-six'sheep,he was still wide awake.

Counting sheep bring sleep.

Liars!

Such kind of tricks do not work. Noted.

His body twisted and turned into his bed, but he still couldn't rest. He tried lying on his stomach, pressing his face into his pillow, but its warmth and comfort did not have its usual effect. His mind was racing with thoughts of the woman in the room directly beneath him.

She must be asleep by now.

Groaning in frustration, he pulled aside the blanket and lifted himself off the bed.

His eyes were drooping, but he was wide awake. For some reason, his consciousness and eyes no longer seemed to agree. He shook his head and moved as silently as possible to the kitchen counter, hoping not to disturb anyone else in the house.

Not that there were many.

Gia was a sound sleeper, much to his relief. Advik was a heavy sleeper. The man sleeps like the dead. Ahana, he doesn't know anything about her. Why would he? Watching a girl sleep is creepy.

The entire house was silent.

Quickly, he dug out his cell phone, turned on the flashlight, and directed it toward the refrigerator. There has got to be something that could help him. Tip-toeing, he continued to walk silently and secretly until he reached the kitchen before turning on the side counter light. Scanning the inside of the fridge, he couldn't find anything.

Just his luck!

He opened the fridge door, looking inside to find something to eat. Sadly, all he saw were leftovers. How do the refrigerators in commercials manage to have so many drinks, yet he only has water?

He was sure there was much more than water present in the morning. His first suspicion turned to Advik, and he peered intently for any signs, but nothing seemed to be out of place.

So much for a midnight snack.

Gripping the bottle of water, he slammed the door shut with more force than was necessary.

"How are you supposed to help me sleep when the only thing you can help me with concerns the washroom?" He mumbled quietly, looking at the bottle of water, sleep long gone but eyes still heavy.

"What are you doing?" Ahana slipped in, appearing mildly amused as she stood on the other side of the kitchen, resting her back against the wall, her hands hugging each other tightly around her waist.
