Y/n's P.O.V.
I'm back in the forest, the fog around me even thicker than before. I'm immediately filled with dread as another part of my past approaches, ready to continue making my life a living hell. But I'm ready this time. Whatever this forest throws at me, I can take it. I hope. Another silhouette emerges from the mist, her crown perfectly placed in the center of her head and her gown and gloves tailored to perfection. Peach. She stares at me with the same blank look Crystal and little Lia did. Her hands are folded behind her back as she takes slow, cautious steps towards me. She extends her left hand out to me, prompting me to take it, but I reel back with disgust and fear. Her tight-lipped smile wavers for half a second before she replaces it with an even more forced smile. She finally speaks, her voice distorted and far away. "Come on, y/n. After all we've been through, after all my family has done for you, you would turn me away so thoughtlessly?" I glare at her and grit my teeth, ready to rip her apart. "You mean after all my family has done for you, right princess?" I spit, venom dripping from every word. At least I can talk in this nightmare. She tilts her head in the most condescending manner and giggles, "your family? Oh y/n, sweetie. You killed your family, remember? You burned down their whole house, and just to rub salt in the wound, fate had it so only you survived. So you could live with your guilt." Her voice became more and more distorted as she spoke, and her head was now bent at an unnatural angle, the bones in her neck bulging and cracking as she continued to slowly stride towards me. She finally revealed her right hand which held a syringe with a dark purple liquid. "What the hell is that?!" I screamed, taking large steps backwards, stepping on sharp rocks and almost tripping on roots. She twirled the syringe in her hand, "Oh, this? Just a little something I've been giving everyone in my kingdom to make sure they stay... obedient. And it would seem that you're well overdue for another dose!" Her voice became what one could only describe as demonic. Her limbs popped out of their sockets before growing in size and her hands and feet turned into claws. Her jaw unhinged itself and her teeth rapidly sharpened right before my eyes. Her once sky-blue eyes were now jet black, from her pupils and iris to her cornea and scleroses, inky black tears streamed down her face. She stood on her new stilt-like legs and let out the most guttural, blood-curdling screech. She was no longer human. She was a beast. The kind of beast that most think Bowser is. Here she was right before me, evil incarnate. My hands were shaking and my feet fused to the ground. I needed to get out of here, I need to run. I can't move my legs, I need to go! Come on, y/n move it! Move your feet! Run! RUN!
"RUN."
I took off running into the forest behind me, the ugly barren trees a blue-gray blur to me as I sprinted away from my own personal demon. I could hear her screeching and thudding footsteps only a few paces behind me. But I kept running. "Y/N! BE A GOOD LOYAL SUBJECT TO ME AND LET ME SHOVE THIS NEEDLE IN YOUR BRAAIN!!!" She laughed maniacally as she chased me through the trees. Branches cut my arms and face and stray stones and roots made my feet ache, but I couldn't stop. I kept looking forward, and I kept running. Until I saw something that made my heart drop. "A dead end." My heart was beating in my ears. I frantically looked around, but there was no where to go. I heard Peach approaching fast. I needed to find a way to get out of here. I looked at the tall wall of vines and branches before me, and I started climbing. Peach's laughter became louder as I ascended the wall, climbing as fast as I could without falling. But I wasn't moving fast enough. Peach came into the clearing and smirked at my feeble attempt of climbing this nearly infinite wall. One of her spider-like arms slammed into me, pinning me against the wall. She cackles and dangles the deadly syringe in my face, taunting me. Tears sting my eyes. I just wanted to be happy. I just wanted a normal life. My tears of fear turned into tears of rage. I gripped onto her hand tightly and glared. "You know what, Peach? Fine. Brain wash me and everyone else all you want, but just know that no one will ever truly love you. And I'm not afraid of you. You can punish me, banish me, and stick me with needles, and I will always come back stronger." The more I spoke, the more energy I channeled into my hands. But it wasn't what I'm used to, it didn't feel hot like the fire I normally generate. It felt better, it felt soothing. "You no longer have any control over me, princess. I will destroy you, with my friends and family by my side. And you will never. Hurt me. EVER AGAIN." I released the energy in my hands and sharp vines shot out of my palms, wrapping around Peach's body, tying her up and strangling her. She gagged and sobbed, pleading for her life. Her grip around me loosened and I fell to the ground with a dull thud. Her screeching came to a stop, and her lifeless form his the floor, my vines tangled around her, snagging in her already matted blond hair. I stood up, took a deep breath, and placed my hands on the ground. It came to me so naturally. with barely any effort at all, I used my magic to open the ground and drag Peach down. I then closed the hole I made and suddenly the whole forest came to life.
The trees became full with bright green leaves and the bark changed from that ugly gray color to a healthy brown. The fog lifted and revealed various types of trees, and wisteria bloomed on almost every branch. I felt the earth rumble beneath my feet and turned around to see that the wall of vines had vanished and there, waiting for me, sitting underneath a willow tree, was my Aunt Crystal. I slowly trudged towards her, my legs throbbing from how much I had run earlier. She was just sitting there, knitting and drinking tea. I reached the base of the tree and she finally took notice of my presence. She smiled gently, "I was wondering when you'd come and visit." I fell to my knees and sobbed. "Oh, dear. There's no need to get upset, I knew you'd come and see me eventually." She set her knitting down and rubbed my back. I tackled her in a hug, burying my face in her faded teal hair. After she retired, she always left it in a loose braid that swung over her shoulder every time she laughed. She smelled of elderberries and rosemary, the feeling of relief and comfort washing over me like a rain during a drought. My sobs slowly turned into laughter as the realization hit me that not only do I have magical abilities, but I have psychic abilities as well, and I'm actually talking to the spirit of my dead Aunt right now. I don't even know what to say right now except,
"I missed you so much, and I love you."
