Mary has a reoccurring fear that the adults secretly dislike her and find her extremely annoying, only taking care of her and helping her to be nice. She doesn't want to tell any of them about this fear out of fear that she's right and voicing it would give them reason to stop pretending.

While her extreme loyalty is an admirable trait, it often blinds her to danger and can cause her to put her trust and safety in the hands of people that do not deserve it nor have her best interests in mind. (Looking at you, Villain Wally AU)

Home sees Mary as an extremely useful tool. While threatening the girl is practically guaranteed to earn her the ire of who she's talking to, it often does get results because none of the adults want a child to be harmed. They'd much rather inflict that pain on themselves than see a little girl who couldn't understand what was going on suffer. While you may think all her threats towards Mary are a bluff, Home is completely willing to go through with it if ignored.
