                               Death

Shilo

They say one of the things that humans fear the most was death.

Now that I thought about it. I fear death.

Not the fear that you feel when you are in a haunted house or the fear you feel that your parents are gonna see your report card...

It's the FEAR.

The fear that death will take you when you're just one step closer to your success.

Just one step...

All those hardships.

Those sleepless nights.

Those things I sacrificed.

All will be nothing if I came face to face with death.

That's why in all my years I avoided things that will led to my demise.

I decided to become a writer. It's not accident prone and there are no dangers in it, except for the fact that people will criticize your work but then again it's much better than any other profession out there.

1:00 p.m

I walk through the bustling streets of Manila.

I was wearing a white cardigan with a  white shirt and brown pants. I regretted wearing this outfit as it's hot outside.

The smoke was making my glasses blurry and opaque.

I'll just wipe it when I get there.

I'm planning to write at a nearby cafe I saw at the internet.

"Sorry"

I said as I bumped into someone. They just nodded their head and walked away.

Then...

I smelled something.

It's like the smell of a dead person. Something in my mind was telling me to just forget it but as I entered the cafe the thought of it has not left my mind.

"Miss can I get a iced Americano and a strawberry shortcake."

"Just wait at the table right there ma'am."

I paid at the counter and went to the table near the window.

I look looked outside and saw people rushing to get shelter because of the rain.

Good thing I got here just in time.

"Here's your order ma'am."

The waiter said as she handed me my order.

"Thank you"

I timidly said.

I was nearly finished with my work when the door of the cafe rang.

A tall man walked in with a long black coat and a fedora hat.

His physique and face reminded me somewhat of a character in my story.

And that character is Death.

I internally laugh at myself.

You're foolish to think that man is death, foolish,a foolish thought indeed.

I shake my head as I was finishing my work when the man suddenly sat in the table in front of me.

"Well, hello there. You sure are hardworking."

He said in a low husky voice.

"I'm not that hardworking as you thought"

I chuckled.

I don't know but my heart was beating so fast right now. It's like it's gonna jump out of my chest.

"Your heart."

"W-what about my heart?"

"It's beating...fast."

That's the moment where I stood up and packed my things.

Being with this man is making me uncomfortable. I need to get out of here fast.

"Where are you going? I like to talk to you more."

He said.

"Oh, I just received a message from my co-worker that I need to be at the office right now."

"I thought you were working on your novel. The screen of your laptop was reflecting on your glasses."

Shoot! I forgot about that. I'm such a bad liar.

"I-I have to go now. It was nice talking to you."

I said as I hurriedly slid my laptop in my bag.

"It was nice talking to you too. See you around."

I was about to walk out the cafe when...

"Shilo Perez,what a nice name."

That's it.

I sprinted to a store far from the cafe.

How did he know my name?

That was one of the questions I was asking in my mind.

First of all,why do I get this feeling that I met him before?

I sat at the bench infront of the store. I was panting.

I reach for my pocket to look for my wallet...

Wait...

It's not here.

Fucking hell. I pulled my hair out.

Why do I have to go back there????

I look at my watch and it's  already 2:20. He probably left by now.

I went back to the cafe and asked the cahier if she saw any wallet.

Luckily, she kept my wallet when she saw that I left it earlier.

I thanked her many times.

I look through my wallet if there was anything missing.

Then I saw a black card with a silver rose imprinted on the middle of it.

Weird. I never had this before.

The sound of the siren of the ambulance brought me back to my senses.

I look at the traffic and it turned green.

As I was about to reach the other side of the road, I heard a loud beep.

I turned around and saw a car speeding towards me. I wanted to run away but my whole body was not moving.

Crash!

My whole body rolled slowly and came to stop.

Blood was coming out of my body.

I hear muffled screams of people.

But one stuck out the most...

"She walked even though the traffic light was red!"

What?

My vision turned black and as I opened them a gruesome scene met my eyes.
