I get home and hear my phone buzzing like crazy. I pull out to see it's our group chat with me, Isla, Calvin, and Kaleb. I've known Kaleb the longest out of all my friends. We met in elementary school, and we shared a seat on the bus. He isn't in the drama department but he's an insanely talented musician. With short dark hair and chubby cheeks, he's one of the best guys I know.
Isla: GUESS WHAT?
Calvin: Chicken butt.
Isla: Seriously Cal, grow up.
Kaleb: He beat me to it.
Me: What's up Isla?
Isla: I know we all had to work tonight which is SUPER LAME. BUT guess who found us a party to go to tomorrow night?
Me: I'm assuming you?
Isla: You'd be right my beautiful friend! Sooooo... we're going right?
Calvin: I'm down.
Kaleb: Me too!
Me: Depends, who's party is it?
Kaleb: Arynn don't be a buzzkill. Let's go!
Isla: Some guy from my AP Lit class.
Me: Okay, and what are the chances of Devon being there?
Isla: Shouldn't be too great of chance being that there are like 3 other parties happening tomorrow night.
Isla: Sooooo, is that a yes?
Calvin: Come on Arynn. We can do a group costume. I know how much you love a good group costume.
Kaleb: Great bargaining point Cal!
Calvin: Hey it's what I do.
Me: Alright, let's go. You're lucky I love you guys.
Isla: And we love you 😘
Kaleb: AND we can just reuse our group costume from last year!
Me: You guys seriously want to dress as the Teen Titans for our last Halloween in High School?
Calvin: Is that a serious question?
Isla: OMG yes Kaleb! Great idea! Arynn, you look SUPER HOT in your Starfire costume 😍
Calvin: Right, and I'm sure Bennett will LOVE it 😉
Isla: 👀
Kaleb: Oh, so Bennett is already back at it I see?
Me: No Kaleb he is back at nothing. Calvin is reaching, like usual.
Isla: No ma'am. Calvin told me that Bennett said he wanted to eat your ass. I didn't pull out $20 for nothing.
Me: OH MY GOD ISLA
Me: He said nothing of the sort. Calvin quit lying.
Calvin: To be fair, that's how I took it.
Me: Bye guys, see you tomorrow.
I lock my phone and plug it in, shaking my head. My friends have serious issues. But Starfire it is, I guess. I pull out the costume and set it aside for tomorrow. I'll straighten my hair tomorrow, which means I need to wash my hair tonight. Thankfully, I have tomorrow off so I can spend extra time getting ready. I grab everything I'll need for my shower.
After shaving from neck to toe, exfoliating, moisturizing, the whole lot, I put on a face mask and scroll through my phone while I wait for it to dry. If there is even the smallest chance, I'll see Devon or any of his idiot friends, I need to ensure that I look my best. I can't let anyone think I'm bothered by our breakup. Which I'm not so it should be easy.
Once the face mask is dry, I peel it off and make sure there's no remnants hanging around my face. I take a snapchat and caption it "costume party tomorrow I guess *shrug emoji*" and post it to my private story. Then I lay down and eventually drift off to sleep.
The next day, I wait for Isla to come over to start getting ready for the party. I already straightened my hair earlier so all that's left is to do my makeup and get dressed. Once she finally arrives, we get to work. We have about 3 hours to get ready before Kaleb and Calvin come pick us up. Kaleb is going to be our DD, but I doubt any of us plan on getting too drunk.
"So, Arynn, since you're officially done with Devon... and I KNOW you said you wanted to focus on you..." Isla says, while putting on winged eyeliner.
"Get to the point Isla." I deadpan.
"I was just wondering when you and Bennett were going to finally admit that you like each other and get together." She says as fast as she can before I can interrupt her.
"ISLA!!" I shout. "We've been through this. We don't like each other."
"Yeah yeah. Whatever helps you sleep at night. But I remember how you two used to look at each other before he moved. Hell, I've seen the way he looks at you when he visits. That boy likes you and you know it."
"I'm not going to go back and forth with you on this. Even if it were true - which it isn't -"I say glaring at her. "It changes absolutely nothing. It wouldn't make sense. Plus, it's Senior year. I have PLENTY of other things to worry about than stupid boys."
"Okay girl. I hear you. I'll drop it. Let's just focus on having fun tonight. Are you ready?" She asks, putting her boots.
Checking my lipstick in my vanity I say. "Yep. Let's take a picture before we go, the guys should be pulling up soon."
We go to my long mirror and take a picture I post it to my private story with the caption 'Starfire&Raven saving a town near you'.
"We look great!" Isla says, twirling her cape around. Just then a honk sounds from outside. I look to see its Calvin and Kaleb. I grab my phone and we go down to meet them. As I buckle my seat belt, my phone buzzes and I go to check it. It's a message from Bennett.
Bennett: Oh yes, I'm in desperate need of saving Starfire.
Shaking my head, I reply.
Me: Don't make it weird Ben.
Bennett: Just want to live my childhood fantasy🤷🏻♂️
Me: And you made it weird...
We pull up to the party and its packed. I honestly wasn't expecting this many people. Fingers crossed; I won't run into Devon.
