Terra stood in the middle of the crosswalk, horrified. Blood dripped from the side of her face where glass cut her, curving around her cheek. She heard a baby crying inside the flipped car in front of her, flames dancing around it. The rain had dimmed, unable to put all of it out.
"Terra . . ." Rose stood next to her, clutching at her babysitter's hand.
Terra blinked and absently wiped the blood off her cheek. The sound of the little girl's voice seemed so distant.
Terra wondered who was in the car with the baby. The mother? The father? Possibly both? She stopped. She didn't want to know how many lives she had ruined . . . how many people she killed. It was a decently sized car---at least eight seats. Terra's breathing was heavy and quick.
She wanted to scream, even opened her mouth to do so, but no sound came out. Only the sharp scent of gasoline was there awaiting her. It tasted vile in her mouth.
"Terra . . ." Rose said again, her voice cracking.
Then the car exploded in front of them.
