Harry crept along the hallways of Hogwarts late at night. They'd planned another meeting in the Room of Requirement. Seeing that he couldn't use Lumos to light the way without disturbing the snoring portraits on the walls, he had to trudge blindly.
As he took another careful step forward, he noticed an echo. The halls aren't all that echoey usually...are they? Ignoring the difference in sound, he continued to walk. But this echo was beginning to sound a little inconsistent, often just a few seconds after his feet took some steps forward, this echo would too. Surely, this echo couldn't see him. He'd remembered to wrap himself over with his invisibility cloak.
Harry began to make another step forward but turned around just in time to see Draco Malfoy turn around the corner, his eyes rapidly searching the walls. He went briskly past Harry, looking through him.
A light burst from out of the same corner Draco came from. It was Dolores Umbridge. A slight smile still hinted on her face. She carried a lantern with her. Draco hurriedly slipped behind another wall just opposite where Harry stood.
Had she put him up to this?
He followed her to investigate, careful to keep his feet light on the ground. He would have to write lines in his own blood if he wasn't careful.
Soon, he reached a clearing, where the Room of Requirement should have appeared, but obviously, Umbridge had no need for it. She tried casting revealing spells and simply looking frustrated, standing in exasperation before Filch appeared trying to investigate with her.
He realised too late that his cloak had slipped off slightly. His unruly brown hair tumbled out of the cloak. A taller frame slipped past his vision and right up next to him.
Harry whispered a quick. "What are you doing!?"
Draco Malfoy had managed to not only invade Harry's personal space but also to confuse him further."Trying to spy on you and that Umbridge Professor," Draco replied in a plummy voice, a half smirk, half scowl on his face.
Draco tried covering the both of them up. However, his taller frame meant that he was taking up a lot more room than Harry was. This left about 20 centimetres of space between them, very awkward indeed.
"Spying on me? We’re going to both write lines if we get caught," Harry whispered.
Draco looked bored but slightly lowered his head a smirk creeping onto his face, making the space between them reduce by a few centimetres, "I find this amusing, you always defy the rules in the most heroic ways."
Harry could smell Draco's breath now. It was disgustingly minty. He must've brushed his teeth a few minutes ago. Harry found himself looking at Draco's perfect white teeth and then his slightly rosy lips.
Draco must've noticed. It wouldn't have been hard seeing as the distance between them was only about ten centimetres now.
Just then, with a swish, Filch and Umbridge slid past them, startling Harry, who then, in turn, startled Draco. Both of them stumbled onto each other awkwardly. Harry's right elbow pushed into Draco's ribcage, which surprised a small oof out of him. Draco's arms flew to either side of Harry's shoulders. They stood in that position for a good minute before seeing Umbridge and Filch round the corner back to whatever else they were doing.
Harry looked up to see a slight hint of redness in Draco's ears, his icy grey eyes blown wide in shock. Harry's own green orbs were wide open.
They hurriedly dislodged their limbs from one another, and the invisibility cloak slid completely off both of them.
"Sorry...I hadn't expected she’d walk by that close to me." Harry rubbed at the back of his neck stiffly. Oh Merlin, what had he gotten himself into?
