era: AU bucky

bucky's standing behind you with his hands over your eyes. you laugh, "c'mon buck, i want to see it!"

"okay, okay," he takes his hands away and rests them on your shoulders. "what'd ya' think, doll?"

you look around and take it all in. "it's...not what i was expecting."

bucky frowns, "you don't like it?"

"babe, there's literally a hole in the wall over there," you say as you direct towards the mess.

bucky walks up the two steps leading to a short platform, "alright, but just close your eyes for a minute and imagine it."

you cross your arms and close your eyes with a faint smile on your face.

"tables over here, liquor cabinet there, framed howling commandos poster in place of the hole," he says excitedly and by the way his voice is traveling you can tell he's walking around to describe the scene.

unimpressed by the vision you created in your head you raise your eyebrows, "you know i can't see where you're pointing, right?"

bucky walks over to you and takes your hands in his. you open your eyes, which was a mistake, and there were those beautiful blue eyes.

somehow they still seem to sparkle in the yellow lighting of the money pit bucky's purchased.

"i think it could really be somethin'," bucky says softly, hoping you share his thoughts.

you smile brightly, "of course it can, buck."

bucky kisses you softly.

"thank you."

"always...now c'mon, we're gonna need backup," you half-joke.

the two of you made a few phone calls and needless to say, a gang of avengers showed up less than thirty minutes later holding brooms, buckets of paint, sponges and other necessities.

steve clapped bucky on the back, "don't worry, pal. it'll be a five star joint by the time we're done."

you all got to work.

scrubbing.

painting.

sweeping.

polishing.

the first day of work was finally over and tony offered to take everyone out for shawarma, despite the hours of work hardly making a dent in the filth.

exhausting weeks had gone by and progress was slow, but it was progress nonetheless.

to be honest, it probably would've gone by faster if sam and bucky hadn't decided to have a paint war and if tony hadn't insisted on replacing the flooring.

an entire month later there was new lighting, floors, fresh paint and a full stock room.

today was the official opening for invited guests exclusively. everyone who'd helped out was proud to see their work finished. they toasted to a job well done.

you kissed bucky on the cheek, "you did great, babe."

he grinned, "we all did."
