It was a warm summer evening. The time when the sky is of pink and blue and the stars are just barley showing. A tender breeze swam throughout the atmosphere as the sun dipped slowly behind the mountains.
A green forest rich in green hues surrounded you. A smooth cobble path lay beneath your feet, leading up to a magnificent castle. It's white complex pillars reaching high into the setting sky. It was dazzling.
You walked slowly up to the citadel, sounds of people chatting and gentle piano could be heard.
[citadel: A fortress or castle.]
You reached the end of the path and took your first step up a set of stairs that lead to the castle entrance. The doorway was thinly lined with gold curls and detailed waves of loopy vines. The floor inside was a deep red carpet, detailed with spirals of dulled yellow. The walls were of stone, beautiful etching and statues adorned them. In every corner there were refreshment tables; cheese, fruits, deserts, and all kinds of fabulous toppings.
Just like the beautiful decorations, the people inside the castle were dressed in fancy clothing. Long dressed decorated in jewels and glitters, suits tucked neat and tidy. Everyone was stylish and formal.
You took a deep breathe, taking in your elegant surroundings. The music, the scent, the warmth. It was very pleasant. You slowly walked around, nodding your head once respectfully to some of the people around you. It seemed as though everyone had a partner, except for you.
The music's volume rose, queuing to the pairs of people that it was time to dance. Some pairs trickled into the center of the room, and moved to the cadence of the music. Others stood along the walls of the ballroom and watched the dancing. Refreshments in their hands. Quiet conversations of admiration or distaste fluttered around the room. It was getting quite lonely for you.
You decided to go to a table to find something to eat or drink. You had no partner, and watching all the couples dance and smile was upsetting. You shouldn't have given up on inviting 'that' person.
The table had many delicious options. Champagne, lemonade, water, cheese, grapes, biscuits, jams, and a spread of prosciutto.
[prosciutto: An aged, sometimes spiced Italian ham that is salted, cured by drying, and usually served in thin slices.]
Although the food looked amazing, you weren't exactly feeling the need to eat.
The doors to the castle had closed before the dance, suggesting that the ball had started. You stood around, waiting for a gentleman to ask you to dance, but it seemed like everyone was looking right through you. The dancing continued on, as well as the ball, and it was time spent alone.
