The clanking of metal and the machine flooded my ears. It was all I could hear, but I got used to it. My mom used to be a blacksmith and my uncle still was one. I came from a long line of blacksmiths, inventors, mechanics, even some archaeologists, so the sound was soothing to me. I loved coming to my uncle's forage to do my homework. To most people I knew, it was distracting and annoying and they thought I was weird for liking it, I didn't care. They weren't even nice people. They were all jerks.

All I cared about was keeping what I had in life all together. My mom, Vanya Ragnar, died when I was young and my dad left us or died before I was born. My uncle was the only family I had left and for his work we had to move to New York. My uncle was Jordan Smith, he had a different last name than my mom and myself because he was my mom's cousin and his parents were unfit to care for him, was a man in his thirties. He had messy dark blonde hair and dark green eyes. His skin was tan from all the time he's been outside.

"Kaida! Are you finished with your homework?" My uncle Jordan asked, walking over to where I was sitting.

"Yep," I said, putting away my work.

"Then could you help me with this axe?"

"Yeah, sure." I got up and put on my leather apron and went to help.

I always loved helping with my uncle's work. I even made my own weapons when I was ten. Strange, but whatever.

After work, my uncle took me to a small diner for dinner. We would do this at least once a month. It was a thing he and my mom did with their parents.

My uncle had to read the menu to me for a while because I was never able to read it. I usually got the same thing so it was easier. My dyslexia was really bad and I couldn't read anything very well and it sucked.

Anyways, I got a burger, fries and a coke, and my uncle got the same. One of the waitresses was always friendly to us, she was one of my uncle's only friends. He had no friends other than coworkers, so I was happy he had another friend. Her name was Stella and she worked on Fridays most of the time, so we would go to the diner on Fridays. Stella was around her early twenties and in college. Her hair was dark brown hair in a ponytail usually and had brown eyes.

However, there was this waiter and waitress who were always rude to us. I was sure their names were Becky and Brian, but who cares. I never knew why, but they hated us, like my uncle and I killed their parents or something. They stared at us, talked about us even though I didn't know what they said, I still knew. Then they would go out of their way to try and ruin our night.
Uncle Jordan tried to talk to the manager about it, but Becky and Brian always made sure to cover up the truth. My uncle just kept me away from them the best that he could, Stella helped as well. They acted like the jerks weren't just annoying bullies. I wasn't fully sure why, but I never questioned it.

This time wasn't any different. Brian and Becky kept glaring at us and making snarky remarks to us. Luckily they weren't serving us; Stella was the one we always requested when we got the chance.

"I need to use the restroom, I'll be back in a minute," Jordan said before he called Stella over, "Can you watch her for a bit? I need to go to the restroom."

   "Of course," Stella replied.

My uncle got up and left.

"I'll be taking orders where I can still watch you, okay?" Stella asked me.

I nodded and she walked off. She didn't go too far, just a few tables away. I heard Becky and Brian talking but I just ignored them. I just continued to eat my burger.

Then a hand slammed on my table and someone grabbed my arm. I looked up to see Becky. She had light brown hair covering her face, so I couldn't really see her eyes. She was also kind of tall.
