"The Tesseract has awakened...it is on a little world, a HUMAN world. They would wield its power, but our ally knows its working as they never will. He is ready to lead and our force, our Chitauri, will follow. A world will be his...the universe, yours. And the humans, what can they do but burn?"

(With Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Phil Coulson)

At their hidden base in the middle of nowhere, an evacuation was in order. Something was happening and officers where escorting other agents, scientists, medics out of the base for some reason. A helicopter flew over, landing on a helipad at the entrance and it showed Nick Fury coming out of it. His right-hand man, Agent Phil Coulson, was waiting for him at the helipad.

"How bad is it?" Nick Fury shouts to Coulson over the sounds of the helicopter.

"That's the problem, sir. We don't know." Coulson answered back, which made Nick Fury give a concerned look towards him.

They took the elevator down to the deep sublevels of their base as Coulson briefed Fury about what was happening, "Dr. Selvig read an energy surge from the Tesseract four hours ago."

"NASA didn't authorize Selvig to go to the test phase." Fury responded.

"He wasn't testing it...he wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous event." Coulson said.

"It just turned itself on??" Hill asked with concern mixed with confusion.

"Where are the energy levels now?" Fury asked.

"Climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, we ordered evac." Coulson said with urgency in his voice.

"How long till we get everyone out?" Fury asked Coulson, looking over to him.

"Campus should be clear in the next half-hour," Coulson said, keeping his eyes ahead of him.

— Small-time skip —

Nick Fury walked over to Dr. Selvig, wanting to know what was going on with the Tesseract. As they were discussing what to do with it, Clint Barton was high up in the scaffolding, watching from above.

He rubbed his soulmark that was on his left wrist, a large colorful music note covering his left forearm, wondering where his soulmate is right now.

He sighed a little, rubbing it more, unknowing that she could feel it from wherever she's at

He sighed a little, rubbing it more, unknowing that she could feel it from wherever she's at. He remembered the day that he got the soulmark, excited that he finally got one. He thought about her everyday for the past few years, hoping to see her again.

His head perked up when he heard Fury's voice in the comms and headed straight down to them for his report.

As they talked it out, the energy from the Tesseract spiked and grew, making a loud whirring noise as if it was charging up. It shoots out an energy beam so powerful that it created a portal on a stage across from it at the other end.

The portal grew big but disappeared after a minute, revealing Loki kneeled on the stage, particles of the blue wisps floating off of him. Soldiers, with their weapons ready, slowly approach him as Loki slowly looks up with a malicious smile on his face. Everyone looked at Loki with shock while the God of Mischief gazed at everyone else, panting slightly. His own soulmate tattoo, the same as Barton's, tingled very subtly.

"Sir! Please put down the spear!" Fury called out to Loki, making the latter look down to his scepter before raising it and blasting some of the equipment. Barton grabbed Fury, moving him out of the way so that they didn't get hit by it.

Loki lunged at a SHIELD soldier, stabbing him before throwing two knives at two other soldiers. He launches another blast towards a female scientist and kicking an agent away. Barton and two agents shoot at Loki, but the god launches another blast, vaporizing one of them. The fighting stops as everyone was on the floor and Loki smiled at the destruction around him, happy with it all.

Barton got up to attack but Loki grabs him by the arm holding him in place. Loki briefly saw the soulmate tattoo on Barton's and his eyes squinted a little, seeing that he would be forced to share. He swallowed back a growl of frustration before he puts on his malicious smirk again.

"You have heart," Loki says before he placed the tip of the scepter to Barton's chest. The energy from it clouded the archer's mind, putting him under Loki's control. The God of Michief did this to a few more agents and soldiers.

During this time, Nick Fury was at the tesseract chamber, quickly taking the cube into a sealed briefcase for transport out of the base. He was about to leave with the case before Loki spoke up again.

"Please don't...I still need that," Loki said, looking at Fury.

"This doesn't have to get any messier." Fury said, trying to diffuse the situation to no avail.

"Of course it does. I've come too far for anything else...or anyone," Loki said, causing Fury to look at him, his gaze hardening at the God of Mischief, "I am Loki, of Asgard, and I am burdened with a glorious purpose."

"Loki? Thor's brother..." Dr. Selvig said before Fury spoke up this time.

"We have no quarrel with your people," Fury said, trying to stall for time.

"An ant has no quarrel with a boot. I come with glad tidings of a world made free...from freedom. This so-called freedom is life's greatest lie...once you accept that, in your heart, you will know peace." Loki said as he took control over Dr. Selvig's with the scepter.

"Yeah...you say "peace", but I think you mean the other thing." Fury said, the portal behind him starting to collapse.

Barton aimed a pistol and fired at Fury, hitting him in the chest. Fury fell to the floor as Loki and the others made their escape, taking the briefcase with them. They walked past Maria Hill, who looked at them with a hint of suspicion towards the god.

"Who is that?" She questioned, looking at Barton as they got into the vehicles.

"They didn't tell me," He responded back and her brows furrowed a little, turning her back to them. She started walking away when her walkie talkie came to life, Fury's voice coming through.

"Hill! Do you copy? Barton has turned!" Fury called out and it immediately turned into a gun fight before the turned Barton drives away in a hurry with Maria following suite in another truck. The whole base started collapsing in on itself as everyone hurried to make their escapes.

Fury flew over Loki and Barton with a helicopter, shooting at them with a pistol, but Loki shot a blast of energy, hitting the helicopter. Fury was forced to jump out of the helicopter, groaning in pain from the height he landed from.

"Director. Director Fury, do you copy?" Coulson called in through the raido.

"The terreract is with a hostile force. I have men down. Hill?" Fury responded back, calling for Maria.

"A lot of men still under...don't know how many survivors." She responded back, getting out of a buried vehicle.

"Sound a general call. I want every living soul not working rescue looking for that briefcase. Coulson, get back to base. This is a Level Seven. As of right now, we are at war," Fury said, "Coulson, get in touch with Romanoff. We need to find Agent Morocke before he does."
