Alex Harding

Alexander Jones "Alex" Harding is one of the five main characters in Amaze. He was born in Melbourne, Australia but immigrated to Singapore during his adolescence because he heard good things about the entertainment industry there and hence wanted to part of the successful Singaporean entertainment industry.

Background
Performing-wise: Alex was born in Melbourne, Australia. As a result, he grew up with Hi5 and enjoyed dancing to the Song of the Week. His favourite segment was Making Music, which eventually made him develop an obvious passion for music.

When he was a child, he ever got to watch Hi-5 live while on a getaway to Sydney. Their radiant smiles made him want to be "like one of them someday." Ever since, he tried out many different performing-related activities for a few years before settling on singing and guitar at 8, as he felt more free than a pegasus singing songs and playing my electric guitar onstage. He was in the choir in elementary school and band in middle school, for both Melbourne and Singapore.

Later on, it is revealed Alex had excellent performance in National Service (NS), an army programme compulsory for all males living in Singapore at 18. A month prior to his graduation, the head of his army asked him if he wanted to continue on as a commander, to which Alex declined so he could pursue his musical career.
Personal life: Alex's personality in secondary school is almost the same as that of the current day, the only difference being he was more emotionally open and empathetic.

His emotional awareness and empathy were "killed" in Secondary Three. Although he moved to Singapore with both of his parents, his dad was diagnosed with final stage brain cancer shortly after his migration. His dad passed on a year after. He had to leave school early to see his dad "one last time."

The next day, his classmates started bugging him about why left school early, to which he responded he wasn't comfortable saying. Everyone started insisting and bugging him until he broke down, sobbing about his father that died because of brain cancer. Unfortunately, rather than consoling him, everyone mocked Alex's father and one person filmed the chaos, screaming repeatedly "Weakling!". The video went onto TikTok, spreading the chaos and damaging his reputation as a singer.

Ever since, he had learnt to suppress his feelings for the sake of people accepting him and not calling him "weak"... until Crystal helped him to embrace and express them.
Personality
Alex is an introverted, quiet and serious man who doesn't talk much. He isn't good at interacting with others and is socially awkwardness, which often leads to the misconception he's a loner.

Alex is the most disciplined, diligent and responsible among the original cast, being the one nagging his friends to learn their lines, moves and songs, even to Crystal. He is extremely logical, which leads him to struggle to understand his co-worker's not-so-logical ways of thinking and living, especially Crystal and Mike. In turn, this leads to him being overly straightforward, which has shown to have scarred one of his co-worker's hearts to the point motivation was depleted.

Alex has a poker face and doesn't show his emotions. He isn't even comfortable showing them, and a certain incident worsened things. (See Background) However, with enough drive and support from all his co-workers, he gets more comfortable with his emotions and shows his softer, kinder side to his co-workers later on.
Abilities:
Singing ability: Alex is revealed to have perfect pitch and not only "sounds nice", but also is able to sing in tune and time.

Other musical abilities: Alex plays the guitar and trumpet. The former was picked up at childhood; the latter was picked up joining his middle school's band and he continued with the instrument into his Singapore secondary school days.

Intellectual ability: He did well enough in his entrance tests to go straight to ninth grade (Singapore's Secondary 3) rather than having to study a few grades lower. He is also shown to be above average in terms of his grades, and didn't need additional tuition to achieve the grades he wanted.

Logical thinking: Regardless of situation or the amount of pressure he's under, Alex is the only one in his team that can think straight and make logical decisions even under heaps of pressure, leading to the assumption "Alex is also Amaze's leader."
