Corlis's Journal, a future historical reference to a Qua Toynian's first thoughts on the Russians
For better or worse, everything stunned me today. I'd never seen, heard, nor read of anything like this giant ship before. More than that, it was very comfortable inside; it was brightly lit, and the temperature somehow didn't fluctuate at all. And even for a ship of this size, we sped through the ocean like an arrow. I wonder how the country of Russia was, seeing that they're capable of making an amazing ship like this?
Within the foreign affairs bureau, everyone though they were barbarians from a developing country. Now though, while I won't say it and would never admit it, maybe, to them, we're the barbarians...
I wonder if Russia has the power to rival even a superpower from the major civilizations...
When Corlis and Hanki were boarding the cruise ship, they had imagined a sail ship with minimal technology and a slow speed. What they instead found was like a royal palace on water with every luxury possible, from heated baths to even some devices called TVs which looked similar to the 1st and 2nd civilization's Mana powered Broadcasting Devices. And the ship was going at a speed that general Hanki could measure at a good 25 knots, three times as fast as any Qua Toynian navy ship.
Throughout the journey, Corlis asked more and more questions to Sergei about Russia's technological prowess. Some of the questions were answered readily while a few were not, usually the withheld answers were of military technology as it was decreed by the Kremlin that no one in the New World must come into possession or even have some knowledge of any Russian technology except those that were at least 150 years old.
The conversation would go like this, "So how do you power your ships to go at speeds much faster than even those enchanted by tears of the wind god?" "Tears? Wind God?"- The confused Russian diplomat would say. 'Well i thought they would know of the tears of the wind god. This makes this even more confusing. Even so called 'barbarian' nations know of this enchantment. But for Russia, a country which has shown such amazing technological advancement so far to not? Just who are they?!'-Corlis would think. "Tears of the Wind God are an enchantment which makes a sailed ship at least twice its original speed. Most countries including Qua Toyne who are located outside the zone of influence of the 5 superpowers and therefore do not have their advanced ships have to make do with that spell."
"Ah, my apologies, sirs, Russia has never heard nor used that kind of Technology ever. And there is no need to anyway, as what you have described sounds like magic, which is outlawed in Russia's main religion of Orthodox Christianity. 150 years ago, after we moved on from sail ships, we adopted more advanced ships which were based on a system called an Engine."
'150 years! So Russia must be very advanced indeed. Even the superpowers seemed to not have steam ships for that long of a time.' "Well then, could i know about this Engine system that your country possesses?"- Corlis asked. "I am afraid i cannot disclose that information, sir. According to a new law made by the government since the transference, any Russian technology which is newer than 200 years must not be known of or even be given to any country in this world."
2 Days later
Port of Saint Petersburg, Russia
As mentioned in the Itinerary, after a 2 day long journey, the Cherneyevsky did indeed arrive in Saint Petersburg, only 10 minutes behind schedule. Again, from expectations, Corlis and Hanki had thought that Saint Petersburg to be like a small town or village on the coast, perhaps something like Kwantan town on the coast of Qua Toyne. Instead they were left in shock and awe at the sheer size and grandeur of this so called port city.
