I awoke prepared for what heaven would look like, but I was greeted by something completely different. I stood up to see where I was easier. And where I was looked like nothing I had ever seen before. I was somehow in the middle of a group of closely grown trees that somehow formed a perfect circle. I walked forward a few steps until the pain from the mountain lion attacking me kicked in. I fell down, suddenly remembering exactly what happened. "How am I alive?" I whisper.

"Simple, someone saved your life and killed the mountain lion." I jump up despite the pain. "What was that? Who's there?!" Unfortunately no one answers so I try to squeeze through the biggest gap between the circular grown trees but I don't fit and I succeed in rubbing the huge scratch wound the mountain lion gave me. I scream in pain before turning around and galloping around and around the small inside of the circular grown trees.

After galloping in many circles I realize that this is pointless and I am only wasting the little energy I have when I might need it later. I lay back down for a while, relaxing. I know I can't get out so I will wait until whoever managed to get me in here (how did they even do that?) comes back and let's me out.

When I have almost fallen asleep I hear someone yelling. "Hey! What's your name I need you to shift! Once you do you can fit back through the gaps." I look around wondering where the voice was coming from. After not finding him (it is a male voice) I yell out, "Well I don't know what you mean by 'shift' but why can't you just let me out and then we can decide to never see each other again." "Oh please, I need you just as much as you need me," he answers.

I still look around for him as I answer back, "I don't know what you mean by that but you can stop speaking in riddles and just get me out of here." I kick at a tree, but I only hurt my hoof. "Like I said, the only way to get out is to shift. I know what you are because I'm one too, I saw your human form. You know, when you passed out." I breathe in sharply at the mention of humans.

"Where did you see a human?" I ask starting to panic as I notice I am trapped. "Seriously stop playing around and just admit, you're a horse shifter. I'm one too." His vice gets closer and I suddenly notice him through a gap in the trees. "Want to see my human form?" He pauses for a second before he is replaced by a dark haired, blue-eyed human. "Now your turn to shift."

I scream in panic and try to find a way out again by running in circles. He is replaced again by a horse. I don't pay attention. Instead I continue running until I feel a huge crack inside of me after the fourth lap. A horrible pain overtakes me as what could only be described as bones moving.

"Well that works too," I hear. "Oh my gosh are you ok?" Comes right after as I fall down to the ground groaning in pain. I completely collapse and I think I black out but I'm not sure.

*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

When I wake up probably only moments later, the first thing I notice is that I am not myself. Instead of having four black legs I have dark skinned arms and legs. Hooves are replaced by hands and feet and my first reaction is to scream as loud as I can. Because I have been transformed into a human. I practically killed my own mother. I am a disgrace to my whole family.

I continue screaming until the guy (in 'human form') slaps a hand over my mouth. I try to continue but I realize it's no use. "Are you insane? Do you want to get us caught, or worse?" I look at him confused. A sudden realization shines in his eyes and he removes his hand. "First time shifter?" He mutters. I try to talk, to ask him what he means, but a weird strangled noise comes out.

"Ok, listen. We need to leave soon but first I need to describe what you are to you." I stay quiet as he prepares to describe what I am. "You're a horse shifter. You can switch between being a human or a horse at any time you want. " He stopped again as if trying to figure out where to start.

"Ok I will tell you the legend of Yin and Yang.

"Yin was a pure white horse with only one black circular mark on her forehead. Yang was the exact opposite as a pure black with a white mark on his forehead. (Also known as a star) They discovered powers that could make them change to a human any time they wanted or change back to a horse. They had foals together and the power traveled through them to their children. They soon realized that all their descendants would have the powers too so they didn't have to somehow give their powers to their foals. But then there was one horse, their grandfoal, Sierra, who did not have the powers. That was when they realized that the powers would not go to every horse whose parents or earlier ancestors were horse shifters. So they came up with a plan and using some of the power of every horse shifter (as there were now six) and combined them into a stone. They called this stone the Stone Of The Isle. When stepped on you would gain the power of a horse shifter forever. After you were a horse shifter it glows light purple on the imprint of two horses galloping. They gave it to Sierra so she too would be a horse shifter. She was ungrateful and used it to shift into a human only once so that she could throw the stone far, far away. The stone was now gone and Sierra was happy. She left and tried to live life as a normal horse but she could not as she had used the Stone Of The Isle to shift once so she was a shifter. She acted like she was a normal horse and her mate did not know. Unfortunately one of their foals was a horse shifter and they refused to keep him. He ran away and that was the start of the Seperation of Horse Shifters and Horses. Most normal horses now do not know about horse shifters. But every horse or horse shifter is a descendant of Yin and Yang. I'm guessing we are about the 300th descendant."

It takes a while to sink in and we sit in silence for a few minutes. "How do I shift back?" I try to say, but I have never spoken as a human and I try to speak horse language. All that comes out is a very strange, neighing, almost scream. He looks at me very weirdly before laughing. "You don't know- how to- talk?" He tries to say while laughing. "Ok for now if I ask a question then shake your head to the side if you want to say no and up and down if you want to say yes. Like this," he says demonstrating. I nod in response to say yes. "Ok let's go."

A/N

1264 words. The whole legend of Yin and Yang belongs to PicturePerfectPage who managed to come up with all of it in like five minutes. Yes, she is awesome because I would take like a few days. Anyway I hope you like the chapter, the picture is Yin and Yang except with the circular marks on their forehead (the pictures also came from PicturePerfectPage) and next chapter I will have a picture of the "galloping horses" imprint on the stone. Also no cliffhanger for the first time in the book! Well I promised I would get this chapter out today so bye, until next chapter. :)
