EXPLOSIONS were the norm when dr. eggman had an idea. (name) had her eyes on the doctor again after she caught wind of a dig site he had ever so graciously put his name on. (seriously, who else proudly proclaims "i am doing something evil!" but eggman?).
arms crossed in the far corner of tails' workshop, the dark hedgehog closed her eyes and listened to the conversation. her and the fox weren't on the best of terms (she's beaten his ass more than she'd like to admit), but it was either 15 minutes of unspoken tension or months of sonic spamming her phone with various invitations to come over, and black doom forbid she NOT turn up to ONE meeting.
"recently, i've picked up on a major energy spike near the great mountains. paired up with eggman going radio silent, i assume he's up to something again," tails starts, staring at his various monitors with great interest, "if... the recent explosions don't give it away already..."
(name) speaks up, "he's been mining over there recently..."
"so he's found something then!" a familiar voice chimes in. oh. yay. sonic.
amy huffed and crossed her arms, "GOD, you're late!"
knuckles only sighed, unamused with sonic's bullshit already, "when is he not?"
the blue blur only laughed their comments off, "sorry! my bad!"
tails cleared his throat, directing all attention back onto him, "on the topic of eggman, i've gotten some reports from the chaotic, gadget, and whisper that some small-scale badnik invasions have been happening in eggman's absence..."
at that, the echidna raised an eyebrow, "small scale invasions aren't really his style... the hell is he planning..."
"oh! it could be a distraction?" amy suggested, tapping her chin in deep thought.
tails briefly considers the idea. he furrows his brows and crosses his arms as he thinks. (name) saves him from thinking time by remarking, "highly likely. there are enough forces to snuff them out quickly. it could just be a tactic to get our attention so all eyes on him when he finally reveals whatever the hell he mined from those mountains..."
"i'm more focused on that mining bit too, shads..." sonic finally speaks up, having been a silent listener. leave it to him to turn (name)'s codename into an affectionate nickname, "like, what if he reawakens some... decades-old virus?"
the planet is still recovering from zombots, but the fact that silver wasn't present was a good sign, at least. the room falls into silence. everyone sat in silence, using most of their brain power to come up with a plan⎯IF eggman gave them time to think of a plan now that all of these red flags are popping up.
