Another day, another lunch date with my girl before our last couple classes of the day.

We decided to chill in one of the campus's mess halls for a change. Once we got what we wanted, we sat on the love seat by the giant window that overlooked the front field of the meeting house. Jorja leaned her head on my shoulder as we began eating.

"The girls and I are thinkin' about going to La Push today," she said. "You wanna come?"

"Am I supposed to know what that is?" I chuckled.

"La Push beach," she snickered. "It's down on the Quileute rez. There's a big swell coming in."

"You know I've lived in Philly for most of my young adult life, right? I don't know nothin' about surfin'."

"There's whale watching, too. Come on, you should come. You can bring the boys."

"I guess I'll come through..."

Jorja smiled bright as she chuckled. She suddenly looked ahead of her, me following her line of sight before noticing Normani starin' at us from where she sat with her siblings.

"I think your girlfriend's jealous," Jorja teased.

I snickered before taking another bite of my sandwich.

"Please," I responded. "She's far from that. At this point, we just tolerate each other."

"To be fair, it does seem like you're the only person she talks to outside of her siblings. Evidently, that's no small feat to accomplish."

"I guess..."

"You should invite her."

"Pretty sure she'll say no."

"Yeah, but it's the thought that counts, right?"

I looked down at her just as she looked up at me. I sighed, giving into her suggestion before getting up to approach Normani, who was now by the salad bar. I watched as she artfully arranged her salad.

"Edible art," I smiled. "I like it. Looks like your mom passed down those creative genes."

Normani chuckled before looking up at me.

"Eh," she shrugged, "I'm nowhere near as good as her."

"For someone who don't wanna be friends, you sure bein' cordial."

"I said it would be better if we weren't friends. Not that I didn't wanna be friends. I'm pretty sure your girlfriend wouldn't like you havin' female friends, anyway."

"Who, Jorja?" I chuckled. "She's not my girl. I mean, she is in the sense of bein' my childhood best friend. But that's just platonic."

"Even so...if you were smart, you'd avoid me."

"Alright. So, let's say, for argument's sake, that I'm not smart. Would you talk to me? Tell me the truth."

"Probably not. I'd rather hear your theories."

She looked up at me with a playful smirk, me chuckling.

"Okay..." I said, "...how about radioactive spiders? Kryptonite?"

She chuckled.

"You're talking about superheroes. What if I'm not a hero? What if I'm the bad guy?"

We took the time to really look at each other.
