Nobody POV:

It was a stormy night that night, the day that Aaron lost everything to him. His wife, his child, his everything. The thunder had been so loud that night, you could barely hear the screams of his people. He was the only one to escape, and even years later, he still has a fear of thunder storms.

"The rain is supposed to be bad tonight, Dante said something about it when on patrol." Aphmau said outloud to Laurence, but loud enough that everybody in the tree could hear. Everyone was currently doing random stuff, it had been a couple days since they had gotten back from the Irene dimension, vibes had been off. And people were nervous. Not just because of the irene dimension.

///Y/N POV:

"Ughh... I planned on training my sword skills tonight, but if it's supposed to rain.." I was visibly upset, I mean, the past few days have been gloomy and now this? Bullshit.

"You can just practice in one of the old buildings under cover, y'know that right?" Katelyn spoke out.

"Yea but it just doesn't feel the same!" I groaned out and Katelyn laughed.

"Yea yea, alright. Hey maybe ask Aaron if he wants to train with you, I'm sure that dude won't mind a little rain." We had just discovered the strangers name the other day, and it was actually a nice name. I was expecting an ugly one to match his ugly personality.

"Oh yea, I'm sure he would do it!" I clapped my hands together, slightly annoyed I didn't think of him as an option. "Oh Aaron~!" I ran over to where he stood on the tree, looking out over the ocean.

"What." He asked, more like declared. Gross.

"I just wanted to ask if you wanted to train with me tonight? If you don't mind the rain that is!" I asked, keeping my 'cheerful' personality, maybe if I act nice he'll say yes.

"No." Ouch. Okay.

"Pretty please~?" I exaggerated my words, making it sound better. Only to be met with silence. Asshole. I looked around and asked if anyone else wanted to train with me, it would make me feel better if someone trained with me in the rain. But NOBODY wanted to, I mean come on, at least someone would want to, but not a single person agreed. I guess I'll just have to train by myself then.

///

The rain had just started, it was a light pour and I was outside along the beach. I was using an old tree as a target, trying out old moves and different sword styles. That's when the thunder started, it was distant, but slowly traveled closer in land. Trees started to shake and soon there were trees falling. I began to run back to the settlement, before I was almost squished by a tree! Rude. I skidded to a stop and noticed an old hole in the hill. I walked inside of it and sat against the wall. Might as well wait here for the rain to stop.

I was so distracted by the water moving I didn't notice the approaching figure, the thunder was so loud I couldn't even hear the footsteps either. "What are you doing here!?" I jumped at the loud voice coming from beside me.

"What the hell!?" I yelled back, jeez, this dude needs to learn to not jump up on people like that.

"Why. Are. You. Here?!" He asked again, and that's when I noticed it, the goosebumps, the small shivers everytime the thunder struck again. Holy shit. Aaron the 'hunk', was afraid of storms. He must have realized my discovery, cause he sat down next to me. "Do not tell a soul." He threatened.

"I won't, just why are YOU afraid of storms? I mean I can understand Katelyn or Laurence but, you? Never would've guessed.." The thunder and wind combined was loud, but I could hear him sigh. "If you're afraid of storms, why are you out here anyways?" That's obviously when he had enough.

"I'm not 'afraid' of storms, I just don't like them." Sureee... that's what everyone says. "My family was murdered during a storm." Now that I was not expecting. What?

"What?" I asked, confused. I didn't even know he had a family.

"You heard me, my family died during a storm like this. Understand now?"

"By family, do you mean like mom and dad, or like a wife and kids?" I asked, just to clarify.

"Wife, and one kid." He said, a little quieter this time. I could notice his hands clenching, and his face tightening every time thunder would strike. I can't believe I'm about to do this.

I scooted closer to his sitting figure, and wrapped my hand over his. "Tell me about them." He seemed surprised about my forwardness.

"Why should I?" He asked, without removing his hand from my grip.

"I'm being nice shithead." I told him, starting to remove my hand when he pulled his hand up and connected his with my own hand. I stared down at our intertwined fingers and up to his face, that held a red tint.

"They were nice. My wife, was a sweetheart." He started to tell me all about them, not sparing a detail. Every time the thunder would strike and the wind would gust by, he would grab onto my hand tighter. Eventually, I was resting my head against his shoulder, listening to him talk about his old village, how he hates Zane and how he misses his kid. Then he went quiet, and for what felt like forever, it was silent. The wind stopped and for a moment so did the thunder. Aaron seemed to notice as well, as we both shared a look.

He began to lean in and I did the same, when the silence was stopped by a tree falling right on top of the whole we were sitting in, trapping us in. I jumped and he faltered, maybe he didn't mean to lean in and make it seem like he was gonna.. kiss me?

"Shit, that's not good." His voice interrupted my thoughts, he was just about to let go of my hand and stand up when the thunder started again. He sat back down almost immediately and held onto my hand even tighter this time. I laughed.

"So big and tough Aaron is indeed afraid of thunder?" I asked, scooting closer to him once more and leaning my head on his shoulder again.

"I told you, I'm not." As he was saying something else, a flash of lightning came down from the sky. It was beautiful. We both stopped talking and stared off over the sea, watching the lightning strike down.

I felt his eyes shift from the lighting to my own, and then repeat this motion for a couple seconds. Before he decided to rest his head against my own. We stayed like this for a couple minutes. Maybe he didn't have such an ugly personality as I thought.

I wanted to write this story with a character who acted tough and he was the only one I could think of that would actually seem like his own character
