It was said that monsters that left Mount Ebott never returned.
Those monsters; that eventually became the fairy tales we hear today. And, nobody ever left, for they knew if they would they could end up like those who disappeared. Nobody knew what was up there, and feared the worst. Nobody ever returned to tell them. Nobody, ever, goes above. That was, until...
-------------------------------------
The air was cold and crisp. A beautiful day for a walk. Though, they only took that moment to catch their breath, for there was no time to admire the scenery. The moment after their ascension was magnificent. Grass as far as the eye could seem decorated with large pillars of oak. The sunlight trickling in through the crown of the forested treetops-and oh the trees! Never have they ever seen such magnificent trees! Oranges and reds and yellows all around, it was beautiful! Their nose twitched, trying to take in the fresh air once again but knowing there was no time.
"Oy! I think I saw 'em over 'ere!"
That was their cue that break time was over. Taking off again, they instead focused on keeping their hooves running. They were not safe. They were not wanted. They needed to hide.
"You can't run for long!" Another voice called out, but Frisk kept running.
They needed to find somewhere, anywhere to stop, but couldn't see anyplace the humans wouldn't snuff them out. They were scared. Scared of the humans. All this time, living right over their heads were humans! Real as can be! It had to be some sort of dream. No, a nightmare. Breathing growing more and more heavy, they were running out of stamina. Wait, but what was that up ahead. There, just ahead, they saw it, the outline of rooftops.
A town!
If they ran fast enough, maybe they could find someplace to hide. Picking up speed, their hooves pattered against the grass that eventually transformed into hard earth underneath them. Once out of the trees, they took a sharp turn around a larger house. It was decorated with several brown planks, a black roof adorning it's head. But, were those... Christmas lights? It was the onset of fall!
*CRACK!*
Someone stepped on a branch not too far behind. Even if the humans couldn't see them around the building, they would if Frisk didn't move. Expecting to escape out the back, they found themselves cornered between the offset of the two houses next to them. The Christmas-one and its neighbor walled them in well, the tall fence behind them far too steep to climb. Their only escape was forwards, out in the open, where the humans were closing in. Knowing they couldn't run into the hands of the humans, they frantically looked around before their eyes focused up. They saw the tall wood-lattice fence, more roof tiles, and... the Christmas lights! Quickly, Frisk stuck a small hoof in a notch of the lattice, and lifted their weight up. The fence was tall and steep, and they already knew they couldn't scale the entirety of it, but they only needed to use it as a ladder. Hoisting themself up, they scaled it until they reached the edge of the roof. Leaning out, they grasped at the Christmas lights haphazardly nailed into the tile and gutter. With a deep breath, Frisk let go of their grip on the fence and with a yelp, swung down a little on the lights. They had tucked their legs closer to them, wrapped around the lights as they clung for their life. Well, the fall wouldn't be what killed them, but there was no time to climb back up now. A few of the messier nails had popped out from the siding with the additional weight of Frisk, causing them to dangle a little lower for their liking, but it held. Carefully, they reached up and pulled themselves higher using the lighting as a rope. They heard shuffling feet growing closer below them, and quickly heaved their body and eventually their legs onto the rest of the roof.
"Footprints!" A voice below called out.
Frisk could hear slight cursing as the humans ran around to the other side of the house, presumably unable to climb like Frisk could. Did they know where they were? If so, there was no time to sit still. They heard more shuffling, and eyed a nearby chimney. Frisk quickly hoofed over to it and swung their legs over the edge. They took a deep breath, and dropped in.
