Chapter 6: Andrew
Fresh air.
That is all I want but instead they have me cooped up in the underground community called the Hex. And by they I mean Jet and his lovely girlfriend. Back in Brooklyn, I used to think that having an underground layer would be the awesome probably because Batman was the only movie I ever really watched. Now, not so much. It's stuffy, the lighting sucks because everything is ran by a generator and don't get me started about the food. Canned everything. I hate to admit it but it's even worse than Jet's cooking and that's saying something because he can't cook for shit.
Jet wanted me to take it easy for a week but I simply laughed in his face. He knows me better than to ask me to sit still. And requesting that right after telling me that the Second Revolt is up and running is ludicrous. It's going to take a lot more than a coma to stop me from being part of that. However, the coma has forced to work out a lot more than usual because it took away my muscles. I had worked very hard for my abs and biceps and that damn three month sleep just took it away. Let me tell you that when I discovered that, I was beyond upset.
"You know what I hate most about this place?" I aim my comment at Sapphira who is curled up on a battered couch with a sleeveless book inches away from her concentrated face. She rests the binding of pages on her chest then looks up at me, annoyed. I give her a big and obnoxious smile from my place on the cement floor but she only rolls her eyes.
"If you say everything then I'm going to punch you. You're lucky we have a place to stay so be appreciative." She says but I keep a smile on my face.
"I wasn't going to say that." I defend myself.
"Yes you were." Zeke, who I thought was sleeping, joins the conversation. "I may not be that smart but even I knew. And to be frank, you need to chill out because I actually like it here. It's awesome."
"Yes, because being in a military camp for teens with super powers is so much fun." I tell him and he shakes his head at me.
"Every word you just said sounds awesome. Have you even gotten to know any of these people?" He asks me.
"No. I don't like people. I prefer dogs. They are far less obnoxious." I'm unable to continue my speak about annoyance with the human race because Jet walks into the room and calls my name.
"Here." I yell back and raise my hand like a child in a class room during role call. This gesture earns me a few stares from other kids in the rec room. It's just past dinner time so most of us are in this room either relaxing, playing pool, or doing homework. I still think it's a ridiculous idea to have these kids go to school considering the situation however Jet is all for education.
Jet spots me and takes a seat on the couch next to Sapphira. "We need to talk." He says and I raise an eyebrow.
"What about?" I ask. He's always been great at hiding his emotions with a monotone voice so I have no idea whether the conversation we are about to have will be good or bad.
"Just come with me." The secretiveness in his voice strikes my curiosity so I decide to obey him without any further questioning. We walk up the spiral staircase that leads up to his office and few other room I haven't seen. All I know is not many people are up there. It's a place of strictly business and most of the kids are only allowed downstairs. Jet stops at the door right before his room and a blue, holographic key pad appears and Jet enters the code.
"1-1-0-6-2-4" He tells me as the door slowly slides open.
"What does it mean?"
"It's the date my grandfather died. The same day he gave me this place. Your the only person besides Navin who knows it." I nod and walk into the room. It looks like a large conference room because of it's long table with large black chairs surrounding it.
