Spellbound

Chapter 5

It's now after school and we're at the Coffin Bean

Even here I get stares, as most of the customers are fellow classmates

"Go order what you want darlin'," I say, ignoring the eyes fixed on me

"Okay!" He grins

I reach in my pocket

"Here,"

I offer him my card

"What? No! Val I'm not using your money-" he pushes my hand away

"Nonsense sugar, it's just right that I pay you back for defending me back there. Get whatever your little heart desires~" I say with a smirk, my fangs on display

There's a hint of red on his cheeks

Slowly, he takes the card without saying a word

He gives me a thankful smile before walking up to the counter

I smile as I take a seat

I look out of the window and see other monsters couples walking around and into stores

I sigh as I watch them

Why can't that be me?

Oh!

Maybe because I screwed it up for myself

"Valentine..?" A soft voice says behind me

I'd recognise that voice anywhere

Draculaura

I turn my head

And to my surprise

It's not her

It's Torelei

She has her arms crossed as she waits for my response

"May I help you Torelei?" I ask

"It's been a while Valentine,"

"Yes...it has..."

She sits where Spelldon should be

I quickly look for him and he's still in the line

Wait, who's serving him?

Oh no

Lagoona

"Jeez, no one has been talking to you at school have they?" She taunts

"Apart from Spelldon, no, and I'm perfectly fine with that," I say flatly

She raises her eyebrows with a smile

"He's cute you know, quite a catch," she turns to look at him

"Meow~"

"Torelei I would appreciate it if you didn't speak about him that way,"

"Why not? You do it too,"

"Because I'm friends with him," I say

"Val, who's this?"

We both turn to look at Spelldon, he's holding a hot chocolate with cream on the top

"Oh, this is...Toralei Stripe," I say

He nods

Dramatically, she puts a hand to her mouth and gasps

"Am I interrupting something?" She asks, sarcasm threaded in her voice

"Yes actually, so kindly leave," I say

She stands

"Good to see you again Val~" she walks away

Spelldon takes his rightful seat

"What was that about? That was kinda rude," he says quietly

Oh gosh how do I save this?

"She's a rude ghoul, so it takes one to know one," I say, dismissively

He giggles

Cute

"Okay then. Hey, aren't you going to get something?" He asks before taking a sip

"I will, don't worry darlin,"

I stand before he hands me back my card

"Thank you, I'll give you the money for it later," he says

"No! I gave you my card because I wanted to give it to you. All you owe me, is your lovely company," I say before walking away

Soon, it's my turn

"What can I...oh it's you," Lagoona says

"Yeah, hehe..." I chuckle nervously

"Uhm, can I have an iced sarcoffeegus please?" I ask

She nods and types it in

I pay using my card

"I saw you give him your card..." she says

"Yea, that's what he used to pay," I say

"That's unusually nice of you..." she mumbles

"Did you say something?" I ask with an expectant smile

"It'll be ready soon," she says, the enthusiasm in her voice is gone completely

My smile fades

"Oh. Okay..."

I stand aside and wait

Soon, it's ready

I grab my drink and go to the table

Spelldon has about half of his drunk already

"Thank you again for this," he says

I take a sip of my drink

"No need to thank me darlin', it's my pleasure," I say

He takes another sip of his but ends up with cream on his lip

"Oh darlin', hold still," I say

I stand and lean over, holding his face up with my hand

I brush my thumb against his lip to get rid of the cream

His eyes widen and again he turns red

I sit back down and wipe my hand with a napkin

He puts his hand to his mouth

"I-I could've done that myself Val," he says shyly

I smirk

"I couldn't resist an opportunity like that love~"

He stares at me wide eyed as I take another sip

I stare back at him, both of us refusing to look away from the other

Now who will break first?

I won't let it be me

"Feeling brave Spelldon?~" I ask

He's even redder than before and quickly looks away

I can tell this is going to be something beautiful
