Menma's hair waved wildly around his head as the explosion buffeted them from behind. Cursing under his breath, he activated his sharingan, looking back into the dust cloud. While the sharingan could not pierce matter like the byakugan could, it could still pick up minute movements, perfect for fighting opponents. Unfortunately, this cloud of dust was too thick for Menma, so he shut his sharingan, wanting to conserve chakra.
"What was that?" Sarada gasped, tree hopping beside Menma. Menma resolutely kept his mouth shut as Boruto bounded up beside him, the blue eyed boy curious as well. Sasuke, Mitsuki and Konohamaru were behind them, Houki and Memory in front. Memory looked back at Menma, byakugan still activated. Her pink hair was in disarray, brows set in a grim line. As their eyes met, something - or someone - flew over their heads.
"Get down!" Konohamaru yelled, leaping forward to pull Boruto down (because he's the No. 2 Unpredictable ninja: seriously, Boruto would leap into a fight even if it's stupid). The rest of them dropped like stones, hitting the ground and running. Well, other than Sasuke.
"Papa!" Sarada yelled questioningly. Menma didn't have to look to know Sasuke had leaped upwards, chasing their pursuer.
Menma, you need to get out of there immediately.
I know, Kura. But how did he get here?
Kurama didn't have time to answer.
Memory could see Sasuke colliding with a hulking figure, moving so fast as to be nearly indistinguishable. But Memory knew who it was. Kinshiki. Judging by the surprise on Sasuke's face, though, she assumed Kinshiki had been dealt with in this world. In her own, Menma had told her that Momoshiki had merged with Kinshiki, but not entirely. Before being absorbed, Kinshiki had transferred the karma mark onto one of the stupid technicians who had tried filming the use of the new fake jutsu weapons. Later, the same technician had left the village, and had become Kinshiki. Angered on his master's behalf, he has been hunting down Menma, Naruto and Sasuke since.
"Menma, how on Earth-," Memory began to ask. In the next second, Menma was flying back, cracking against a tree.
"Menma!"
Memory darted forward as Kinshiki dropped, followed by Sasuke. Kinshiki's axe was buried next to Menma's head: the hilt had been the bit to hit Menma. The young Uchiha spat blood, eyes beginning to swirl red.
"Memory! Get back!" Konohamaru shouted. Memory didn't need to turn around to see them: Houki looked worried, Boruto was itching for a fight and Sarada and Mitsuki stood on standby. But Memory knew she had to help Menma. So instead, she ducked under Sasuke's swinging sword and avoided Kinshiki's fist, sliding in next to Menma.
"You ok?"
"I'm fine," Menma said with a smile. "Kurama is healing me."
Little streams of gold chakra started appearing around Menma's fingertips. Memory grabbed his hands and shook her head.
"You haven't used it enough. Just incorporate Kura's chakra into your own moves, don't go full cloak mode."
"It might not be enough," he argued.
"You're fighting with Uncle Sasuke," she argued back. "You'll be fine."
"No Rinnegan though."
"Menma!"
"Fine."
Menma stood up, rolling his shoulders. Memory stood beside him, tightening her headband. Across from them, Houki made eye contact, a warning in his gaze. Memory shared a glance with her best friend, who grinned, wrinkling the whisker scars on his cheeks. Then they leapt into the fray.
Hi guys, sorry for the lame short chapter. I'm really busy at the moment and struggling with writers block. But thank you for all the lovely comments!
