PAST - March 2009
Holmes Chapel, Cheshire
"Sun is shinin' in the sky, There ain't a cloud in sight. It's stopped rainin'' everybody's in the play And don't you know, It's a beautiful new day, hey hey..."
I'm startled awake, as I hear the opening notes of Mr. Blue Sky play from my phone. Sitting up, I reach over to the night stand to grab my phone, to see if I have any messages. Surely enough I have some from my sister Pippa, my boyfriend Alfie and a few from friends at School wishing me a Happy Birthday. Yet still none from Harry.
Sighing to myself, I think of how today's the day I have been waiting for, my 15th birthday. I've always loved birthdays, Mum and Dad always make a big deal about them. It's been weird since Pippa went off to University, but I know it will still be a very special day. Or at least I hope it will.
Harry's been acting off again. Surely he's gotten back together with Alyssa, and doesn't want to tell me. After all, he knows how much I dislike her. It would also explain his absence after school and the missing birthday text. We usually always walk home together and do our homeworks till it's time for dinner, but it hasn't happened in about a month. Even though he is my best friend, I can really hate him sometimes. Then again it's not something I'm not used to, he always does the same thing when he's back with her. He had promised he'd come to my birthday party tonight, so we shall see if he keeps his promises.
Looking back at my phone I realize I have to get up and start getting ready, or I'll be late to school.
Walking towards my closet I grab my school uniform and start to change. As I look at myself in the mirror, I can't help but feel insecure. I don't look how most girls my age look, I'm certainly undeveloped in some areas and still look like a child. Nonetheless, I move onto braid my hair, and grab my bag before walking downstairs.
As I walk downstairs, I am greeted by the smell of pancakes, and a decorated living room, with my parents singing at the top of their lungs "Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Avery, Happy Birthday to you!".
Feeling awkward but happy, I give my parents a shy smile, before muttering a quiet thank you to both of them. Soon enough my fathers is rushing to my side to give me a hug and says "Happy Birthday darling, here's a little gift from me and mum."
"Thanks dad, you didn't have too." I say as I take a seat at the table
Mum then responds and says "Hush, darling. It's only once that your baby turns 15. We really hope you like it."
"I'm sure I will mum." I say, as I tear open the wrapping paper, to see a small square velvet box. As soon as I open it I see the most beautiful A pendant. It is crusted in small little diamonds, placed on a delicate silver chain.
Speechless, with tears filling my eyes, I look up at both my parents, to see them looking at me expectantly. Instead of saying anything, I get up from my chair and run to hug them both. With my actions being enough, we all take our seats and proceed to enjoy breakfast.
