chapter 2

it had been about five minutes before two girls started walking towards us. i hadn't seen them before. they were laughing together,so i assumed they were friends. i stood up from the wooden bench of where i sat and leant against it. i crossed my arms and watched them from where i stood. my tail rested on the seat next to my bag. as they got closer, i got a huge sniff of something. i smelt..like nothing ive smelt before. it kinda smelt nice. i closed my eyes and fell into the void of which my eyelids made. i tilted my head back slightly and let the breeze shake the loose pieces of hair which were on my face. i smiled to myself as i inhaled again. the smell was stronger than before. it was..a kind of nice smell. the smell invaded my lungs. the smell was soothing and innocent. it was roses. i opened my eyes and looked for where the smell came from and what i saw was pure beauty. the way the summer sun reflected off her burnt umber skin and made it glow. the way her aubery eyes glistened and how her black hair danced in the wind. she had a pair of creme wings attached to her back. i looked her up and down,examining her. her smile looked innocent and the way she smiled would have made the whole world glow. "who's she?" i asked knight."she's gem," knight said lowering their head to my height. "she's an angel," knight smiled. i looked at her again and saw she was talking to elijah,ezra and.. i looked at the other girl. she was new,and her smell.. it was mesmerising. i inhaled once more and began to smile again. 'wow,' i told myself. 'each one has their own scent, something that defines themselves.' i turned around and placed my hands on the table. Lucas was being yelled at by knight, the three girls were talking together and Elijah was drawing. 'these..' i thought. 'these are my friends' i smiled to myself. the thought of having people similar made me happy. i never had made friends this quick and mostly got bullied for not being a hybrid unlike everyone else.
i walked over to the new girls, ready to introduce myself. "hey royal?" a voice called infront of me. i looked up to see lucas. "help..?" he whined and pointed behind me. i turned to see knight smiling evilly. i giggled to myself, looked into his ocean green eyes and smiled. "thats your problem," i laughed and carried on towards gem and the other girl,who's name still remained a mystery to me. "hello," i smiled when i arrived to them. they both turned to look at me and returned my smile. "hello," gem said, "i'm royal," i said bowing to them. my tail danced in the wind. "why are you bowing?" a not so deep,familiar voice called from behind me. i looked back to him and said "im used to it." i stood up to a girl smiling at me with open arms. i looked at her,then her arms and then her once again. she walked forward and wrapped her arms around me. she was slightly smaller than me and her hair was plaited. I looked down to her but she was already smiling at me. i noted her every detail. the way her eyes glowed, how her smile was comforting. "w-what are you doing?" i said, stubbling over my words. "it's called a hug?" she answered confusedly. "i-i know that.." i muttered as she pulled away. she looked at me, a smile growing across her face. "its just.."i said looking away. "just what..?" the girl answered. my body was out of control. before i could finish i found myself hugging her tight. she hugged back and smiled at me. "i'm crystal," she said when i eventually pulled away. just then the bell rang,bringing our fifteen minute break to an end. Meaning our next class was about to begin. i looked around at my new found friends and smiled. 'this is what its like having friends' i smiled to myself. 'don't screw this up royal,' i add. "what do you have now?" asked lucas,who was walking inbetween me and ezra. i pulled the folded piece of paper out of my pocket and looked closely. "erm.."i said pulling it closer to my face. "someone called miss camari," i said looking at him. "well you have me then," knight piped up. i looked at them and smiled. "okay," i nodded to them. i heard a slight scream from behind. it made me flinch and turn back. i saw lucas being hit by elijah. "that's what you get for scaring me!" the boy with brown hair yelled at him,truimphally. i flinched again when i felt a cold touch on my shoulder. i hadn't realised that i had paused in my steps until knight brought me back. "hey,you okay?" they asked me,concerned. i looked back and smiled. "yeah im fine,why?" i tilted my head slowly,trying to play off how i had flinched at the noise. "come on we're gonna be late," knight smiled at me.

it took about a minute to arrive to class. the room was smaller than music. the board was at a blinding brightness. i looked at the teacher and sighed. again she looked innocent. her pale wings crept up her back and fluttered as the door swung open. a trampid of students cluttered through the door and filled up the room. i looked around for knights reasuring smile,their comforting nod. the teacher anounced me to the class and made me do an introduction. "im royal williams, daughter of robin williams," i bowed to the class. the room filled with whispers and small chatters. "okay class lets be respectful," the teacher smiled out onto the display of children. "here,you can sit next to knight," she pointed to a spare chair next to my friend.

as quickly as it started,class had ended. the whole time i could hear whispers about me,about my mother. rumors and fake news. i walked out the class and gave a breath of relief. i looked for my friend who was clearly having troubles getting out the class behind a group of girls. they stood there applying makeup. i gave a quick giggle at my friend who desperatly needed saving. i grabbed their arm and rescued them from the hell of girls. as we walked outside i gave another giggle at knight who had their arms crossed. "i'm sorry,knight," i laughed. "you could have helped me sooner," they glared at me. "i-im sorry," i said,struggling to catch my breath. "well i've got a free period," knight said smiling as we caught up with elijah and lucas. "we all do knight," elijah said,breaking their smile. "i- well-" they stuttered. "oh shush," they finally said looking the opposite side. "s-so what do you do during this period?" i asked them. "well we usually chill in the home base area,elijah draws," knight pointed, "lucas..well who knows," they added. "hey!" lucas said loudly,causing me to flinch again. "and ezra hangs out with gem fangirling over a teacher," elijah finished. "s-so," i stuttered again. "do you have a guitar?" i asked. "yeah come on i'll show you," lucas smiled at me and i followed him.
