"Umm H-hey mom" I replied sheepishly. I am so dead now.

"Don't you 'hey' me." She glared and I immediately averted my eyes down. Mom usually seemed to calm down a little when we let her finish the things she wanted to say. How I wish Shanny was here, with me, right now. She had this different way to deal with my mom's anger with her amazing convincing skill that always got me out of trouble. But, here I was, all alone and all set to face the wrath of mom's anger. I started pulling with the strap of my sling bag- a habit, I developed long ago which showed how nervous I was.

"I told you to be back by 11, didn't I? There's a reason for the curfew Allie and you know the reason very well." She said and that made me look up into her eyes which held a different emotion. No. it wasn't anger. It showed the fear, the love and care for me. I instantly knew the reason she was referring to and I almost instantly pushed away those memories that were threatening to come back.

"I'm sorry mom. It will never happen again. I was just so much involved in having fun there, that I lost track of time." I said quietly, looking down again. I would never dare to argue with my mom unless I was right. And right now? I was nowhere close to being right. She has every right to be angry at me.

I looked through my lashes and saw her staring at the flower vase on the table beside me, which indicated she was in a deep thought. No. Not again. I knew by the look on her face, what exactly kept her mind occupied.

Almost as if sensing my stare, she looked back at me. The anger was back as she said, "You know apologizing won't get you out of it."

"Go ahead. I know what were you thinking a few seconds ago mom. And I will accept it without any complains." I mumbled as I crossed my fingers.

"Okay. I have thought of a better punishment this time." She said.

I looked up for the second time and knew it would be bad this time. She opened her mouth to say the next words as I waited wondering what it would be this time.

"No Dating, boyfriends or anything of that sort until you're done with your education. Promise me?" My mom stated, narrowing her eyes.

Ha! that's the stupidest punishment ever. I thought.

I never had any boyfriend or anyone close to that, and I will never have one. I had crushes, no doubt and I was asked out twice or thrice. But my activities always kept me so busy, I never had time for dating and stuff.

"That's it?" I questioned. Surprised.

"You want more of punishments?" She frowned.

"NO!" I exclaimed. "I mean, that's really easy. Okay, I promise to you...." I lifted my right hand in pledge and continued "...NO BOYFRIEND until I am done setting up my career. Good night mom." and with that said, I smiled victoriously and marched back to my room.

Once I reached my room, I quickly changed to my comfortable night wear and grabbed the cell phone from my bag, excited to tell Shanny about the stupid punishment mom thought of. As I got hold of it, it beeped, indicating I had a message. Ignoring the message and not wasting time on looking at the sender's name, I called Shanny and waited for her to answer.

"How bad is it?" She asked, answering on the first ring.

"Not bad at all." I replied followed with a chuckle.

"Okay. Look, I know you're in a state of shock and you probably don't know what to do with your life. But Allie, trust me on this. Everything will be fine. It's just a stupid punishment th....."

"Very stupid indeed." I cut her off, followed with another chuckle.

"Oh my god! I need to talk to your mom. What is it this time that you've lost your brains?" She sounded worried.

I frowned. "What? I haven't lost my brains. I am serious Shanny. You won't believe what mom made me promise. It's absolutely, totally, completely, really, really stupid!"

"What is it that is stupid with so many adverbs?" She questioned.

I chuckled one more time before filling-in her with all the after-party events at home.

"Isn't that like, the stupidest promise ever?" I laughed.

Silence.

"I mean, you know I never had a... you know... a boyfriend and this promise won't bother me at all. Out of all things, mom found this one the best."

Silence.

"She could have easily trapped me into giving up on chocolates or something. But look, how my luck works!"

Silence.

"Umm Shanny? Hello? Are you still there?" I asked unsure. Did she drift off to sleep listening to my rambling? I mean, it wasn't that boring.

"And you think this is stupid and not bad at all?" She whispered suddenly.

Oh. So, she is awake.

"Yeah." I said.

"This is beginning of the last year of our high school Allie! How does the fact 'you can't date' amuse you so much? I would have never survived with such a punishment." I could imagine her frustration growing. Yes, she was right. She would have never lived with such punishment. Dating was a normal routine for her. I lost the count of her ex-boyfriends long back. And considering how beautiful she was, guys just could not keep themselves from seeking her attention.

"What's the connection between our last year in high school and this punishment of mine?" I asked.

"High school love is supposed to be the most memorable one Allie. And I've never forced you into dating all my life. But, I did have plans for you in high school. I guess, everything is just ruined now." She said in a disappointing tone.

"Your mom is really smart." She sighed.

"You are simply fussing over this matter Shanaya. This isn't even close to the worst of those past punishments I had to go through. I'll deal with it at ease. Besides, high school is not all about love. Let's just make memories with our friends." I said as I laid down on my bed and pulled the covers up to my neck with the free hand that wasn't holding the phone.

"You won't understand now. Anyway, it's pointless discussing this over phone. We should sleep now. We have school tomorrow." She said.

"Yeah. You are right. Let's just sleep now. I'm tired from all the dancing we did there." I said as I stretched myself.

"Yes and for the umpteenth time, please don't be late." She pleaded.

I let out a chuckle. "Okay. I'll try not to be late. Bye, Good night."

"I'm serious Allie and this isn't over. WE will discuss your sweet little punishment in break tomorrow. Night." With that said, she hung up.

I placed the phone on the night stand beside my bed when I realized I had an unread message. I grabbed back the phone and unlocked it. The pop up was still there on the home-screen that showed it was a message from Aryan. I quickly read it -

Did you get home safe?

I smiled as typed a quick reply.

Yes. Good night :)

Not even seconds later, my phone beeped again with a message from him.

Good Night. Sweet dreams Allie ;)

I placed the phone back on night stand and sighed. And after a very long time, I drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face.
