15-year-old Katya watched in interest and horror, mainly the latter, as fangs protruded from her sister Vera's mouth.

She stumbled back, watching as Vera turned to her with golden eyes.

"Ver, it's me," Katya said. "Your sister. You don't want to do this!"

Vera said nothing but growled in response as she lunged toward her sister.

At that moment, a shot rang out.

Katya glanced back at the window to see a boy, not much older than herself, holding a gun.

She quickly unlocked the front door and darted outside. She walked up to the boy and pointed at the house. "What the hell was that?!"

"Let me see your teeth," he said.

"What?"

"Did she turn you?"

"What?! No! What was that?! What's going on?! Why did you shoot my sister?!"

"Listen, lady. That wasn't your sister. Not anymore. That was a werewolf. And the only way to kill it is a silver bullet to the heart."

"So you... You just killed my sister?"

"She was gonna kill you."

"I... uh... I, yeah. Thanks, um, I don't know your name."

"Dean. Dean Winchester."

"What are you, some kind of James Bond wannabe?"

He laughed. "I wish. No, I'm just somehow who vanquishes evil."

"Like a superhero."

"Kind of, yeah. You got a name?"

"Katya Peters. Um, maybe I could come with you? Learn this vanquishing evil life?"

"This is a dangerous life, Katya."

"Yeah. I know. My monster sister just tried to kill me. It's either come with you now or go into foster care."

"What about your folks? Or extended family?"

"Don't got any. It was just me and my sister. Now it's just me."

Dean considered it and nodded. "Okay. Pack a bag, Katya. We got a big job ahead of us."

Katya ran inside and gathered up as much as she could in a duffel bag and shouldered it, walking outside.

Dean took the bag from her and put it in the trunk. "You ready?"

"No," she admitted. "I have no idea what I'm doing."

"That's okay. I'll teach you. Me, my dad and my brother. You'll meet them a little later."

"I can't wait."

And thus, it started.

Katya Nielsen would eventually become well-known within the hunting community. And she would do it without the Winchesters' help.

Never did she think she would see them again.

But one California hunt, a woman in white, would bring the two back together.
