Jean was born into a wealthy but good hearted pureblood family that believed that purebloods and half bloods are better than muggleborns, as they understand wizarding traditions better and most muggleborns want the muggle and wizarding worlds to merge together. They also believed quite the opposite- that the wizarding and muggle worlds should remain separated forever, as disagreement and disorder would wreak havoc on both societies. His father is a respected and hardworking wandmaker that sells wands in Vichy, which is in southern France. His mother is a healer and ministry employee of the French Ministry of Magic. They moved to northern Scotland before Jean's first year at Hogwarts, although they go back and forth between the two nations often. His parents were talking about getting dual citizenship after a few years. He was also taught many things in his years before Hogwarts and used that to his advantage, especially in his later years.

In his first year, Jean focused his efforts on studying and learning as much as possible, not focusing on gaining friends or the sport of quidditch. Not much happened other than one important thing: He met the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw. He would be happy to say that she would become his most valued friend, even if she was just a ghost… what if he could give her a body back… The two helped each other out and she told him of many things that have happened over her years being dead and about her mother and more. He finished the year with at least exceeds expectations in all subjects, gaining the top of the class in charms and transfiguration.

Beginning his second year, he learned of the death of his (favourite) German great uncle, who apparently left all of estate, assets, and wealth to Jean and him only, most notable of these being a property a little ways away from Innsbruck and the large library inside of it, something that Jean would come to value in his later years. When his grandfather took him to the estate, he told him some family secrets and explained to him about his family's history and how it still has dark artifacts in some places. He also revealed how the family secretly has 4 time turners left, but were in different places around the home, and his grandfather already had one…

Flashback, Jean's Second Year, Christmas Holiday:

He watched as his grandfather took off the time turner around his neck, making sure the cord did not get tangled. His grandfather just told him where each of the time turners are, or at least where he thinks they are. "There are four time turners we have in this home of yours. The one I have here goes back in days, another one is in years and another in decades. Those are only to be used in the event that you cannot escape a conflict or a long lasting situation, such as a complete overthrow of a government or another Grindelwald coming along. Another one goes back in centuries, although can be altered slightly. That one should not need to be used… Hopefully one day, we can find a way to go forward in time… Other than that, I will give you a portkey necklace of sorts that you can use to get here… Just don't use it at Hogwarts, otherwise the English Hogwarts staff and even their ministry would get suspicious…"

Other than that and a few more honest talks with Helena, the year seemed relatively normal, although he started playing the piano and accordion. The latter, he would play while Helena listened. The songs he liked to play the most were On the Hills of Manchuria and Smuglianka, both of which are Russian songs.. He had also discovered a room called the "Room of Requirements", which he found by finding a random door by a statue on the seventh floor of the school. Jean had experimented with the room and learned that the room creates a room based on what you think of, at the simplest level. There were several different common places Jean would find in the room of requirement, those being a grand library, cartography room, the streets of a snowy town called 'Northaven', and even a full fledged castle, one that he got lost in one saturday. However, those are only the tip of the iceberg. Jean found a very strange room one day…

Flashback, The Room of Requirement, Jean's Second Year, December 20th

Jean had walked into the room of requirement again after dinner as he had done the past few days. He had begun to use the room as an easier place to talk to Helena in private. This time was different though, as he wanted to learn the true meaning and history behind the special room unlike any other. He paced along the entrance of the room, requesting in his mind to understand the true meaning and history of Rowena's special room. Suddenly, he heard a noise, one that sounded like a soft piano being played. It was very minute and quiet, but he could hear it.
