The camping trip turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected it to be

The camping trip turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected it to be. We spent almost everyday at the lake, giving me enough time to develop the perfect tan. Even though I had a good time, I was more excited than I had ever been to take an actual shower. After pushing the door open to my house, I immediately ran up to my room, turning on the shower in my ensuite bathroom. I quickly got in, letting the shower wash the last four days in the woods off of my body. The hot water eased the pain that came with sleeping on the ground. Finishing my shower, I dried off before getting dressed in the comfiest clothes that I owned. I joined my mom downstairs, noticing that her hair was wet so she had probably just taken a shower as well.

"Let me guess. That was the best shower you've ever taken in your life, because same."

"I had no idea how much I needed that," she laughed, typing away on her laptop with her glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. "I'm just catching up on some e-mails right now. What should we do about dinner?"

"Takeout sounds good. I can go call it in and pick it up if you want me to," I answered while grabbing a glass from the cabinet, filling it with crushed ice and water.

"Sounds like a plan to me. You know what I like."

I pulled out my phone, calling the place we always ordered from when neither of us felt like cooking dinner. The woman on the other line recognized who I was almost immediately and put in the order without much help from me. She let me know that it would take about 20 minutes, eliciting a thank you from me.  After hanging up, I grabbed my keys, figuring I could just make my way to the restaurant now. The long way around would turn the 10 minute drive into a 15 minute one, putting me there at the perfect time.

I'm not completely sure what happened, but Joshua and I had come to some silent agreement that we would try to enjoy each other's presence for the remainder of the trip, considering we couldn't get away from each other. I found myself smiling at the memory of him throwing me off of the dock into the lake. He jumped in after I had surfaced, causing a large amount of water to splash me,

"Oh, sorry. Did I get you wet?" A fake pout took over his face, making me giggle.

"Just a little bit," I continued giggling, pushing my soaking wet hair out of my face.

I shook my head, hoping the memory would shake away with it. I know that things between us will just go back to how they have been for years now. Expecting anything different would just lead to me being hurt.

I found myself humming the song Joshua sang to me the first night in the clearing. The words constantly played on a loop in my head. "Please let me love you." It's crazy to me that he can just imagine what situations feel like, write about them and then play the music with so much emotion.

The drive to the restaurant consisted of me screaming along to whatever music played on shuffle. Walking into the restaurant, I greeted all of the workers before paying for the food. The middle aged woman who helped me reminded me to come back soon as she placed the bag of food in my hands.
