The day before the dance everyone was buzzing with conversations about dresses, tuxedos, and who they would be taking to the dance. Tiara didn't pay much attention to their chatter, while everyone else was going to the dance in some sort of fancy limousine Tiara and all her friends were riding in her mom's Minivan.
The dance didn't start until 6 on Saturday so she had a load of time to wait until it was time for her to get ready. Tiara and Courtney got their hair and nails done that morning then they went back to Tiara's house to wait until closer to the dance before they got ready.
"Any word from Prince charming?" Courtney asked as she penciled on her eye liner.
"None," he replied. "I guess we'll see him at the dance."
Courtney nodded and continued with her make-up. After she was done with hers, she moved over to Tiara and started on her face. Tiara would never have been able to do her make-up herself, so she was grateful that she had Courtney there to help her get ready.
"You three look so pretty," Tiara's mother said as she snapped picture after picture of Tiara, Courtney, and Destiny.
Tiara eyed her sister's dress in a mix of jealousy and disgust. Destiny had gone out a gotten herself a dress that was as dramatic as she was. It was a sparkly red ball gown that clung to her in places that seemed just short of inappropriate for a school dance. Tiara could mentally comprehend the fact that this is what Kirsnick was going to be seeing when he met her up at Lover's lane.
"Earth to Teezy," Courtney said waving her clutch in front of Tiara's face. Tiara blinked hard and looked over at her.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"We need to leave before we're late." She said.
"Right," he said. They'd finally finished taking pictures after offset and his friend had finally arrived and Courtney's mom was finally done taking pictures of the four of them and they finally were able to leave. The guy, offset's friend, was nice, and he was quiet, it was the kind of quiet that made Tiara feel like he didn't really want to be there. Maybe he was just doing a favor for a friend, and he really didn't, either way she was ready for the night to be over before they even pulled off from in front of her house.
They pulled up in front of the school and climbed out of the car and going into the gymnasium. The decorations were nice, none of the music had curse words in them, and the teachers were all standing around making sure no one got too out of control. You would think they were in middle school the way the staff was acting. Tiara and her date found a table to sit at and occupied themselves with talking about their classmates as they walked in.
"Hey, don't look now, but I think we have a problem," Courtney practically threw herself down in the chair next to Tiara she was moving so fast. Tiara looked up and offset was walking up behind her with his hands pushed into his pockets.
"What?" Tiara asked her. Courtney took Tiara by the arm and yanked her out of her seat and toward the dance floor.
"That's the problem." She said.
"What the hell?" Tiara peered through the crowd at the sight in front of her. She didn't want to believe what she was seeing but it really looked like she had no choice. Standing there in the middle of the dance floor was Courtney and her floor length red dress with her arm wrapped around Quavious Marshall. Quavo was a senior, and arguably the most popular boy in the entire school. He played every sport you could possibly think of and never seemed to go to class.
They danced in small circles to the slow song that was blaring over the loudspeakers staring into each other's eyes like they were the only two in the room.
"What time is it?" Tiara asked quickly.
"You looking at that and worried about what time it is?" Courtney shot back.
"Just answer me."
"Almost 9 o'clock," she answered. Tiara looked back up at her sister, the look in the older girl's eye said that she'd found her knight in shining armor but if that was true then that meant someone else was left in the dust. Either she'd dumped Kirsnick to come here with Quavo or she hadn't met up with him at all.
"I need to go." Tiara said as she gathered the bottom of her dress into her hands and started toward the door.
"Where you going?"
"I have to find him." Tiara said. "If she's here with him that means she probably stood him up and he's probably devastated."
"What am I supposed to tell your date?" Courtney offered. Tiara turned around and looked Courtney right in the face.
"I don't know and honestly I really don't care." she replied.
"Fine, I'll make something up." Courtney said.
"Thank you," Tiara opened her arms and pulled her friend into a hug.
"No problem, go find him." Courtney replied.
